Summary

The C.W. Bill Young VA Medical Center Healthcare System's Emergency Department Service is seeking an experienced and dynamic Physician (Emergency Medicine). Ideal applicants are those who want to contribute to quality care standards and the growth of a VA academic hospital program. Candidates should be excellent communicators and team players adaptable to a growing medical center.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the basic and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending training or license completion applicants may be considered tentatively. Current VA-employed physicians who met previous qualification standards are deemed qualified.

Basic Requirements:

• U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens only if recruitment of qualified citizens is not possible
• Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an accredited school
• Current unrestricted medical license in the U.S.
• Completed residency in Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, Surgery, or Family Practice, approved by the VA
• Residents in accredited programs may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) on a limited basis
• Proficiency in English
• Preferred: Evidence of at least two endotracheal intubations
• Board certification in Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, Surgery, or Family Practice
• Current BLS/ACLS certification
• Must pass a VA pre-employment physical

Duties

• Provide comprehensive emergency care, including resuscitation and stabilization
• Consult with medical staff and support personnel
• Prescribe medications and order diagnostic tests
• Communicate with patients and families about care plans
• Operate medical equipment safely
• Document in CPRS; participate in educational and quality assurance programs
• Attend team meetings and serve on committees
• Perform additional skills such as paracentesis, intubation, line placements, and wound management
• Work schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, with possible shift variations
