Job summary

Mount Carmel Health System is seeking a Physician Coding Specialist II to assign CPT, E/M, surgical and ICD codes for the Mount Carmel Medical Group. The role requires advanced knowledge of specialty coding and timely data abstraction and validation.

You will query physicians when documentation is unclear, stay current with coding guidelines, maintain certifications, and support accurate reimbursements while upholding ethical coding standards.

Qualifications

• Education: High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Certification in coding (CPC, COC, CCS, CCS-P, RHIA, RHIT) is required; CPC/CCS-P preferred.
• Formal training in CPT and ICD coding or experience with ICD and CPT coding principles is required.
• Minimum one year of physician office coding experience is required.
• Strong communication skills and knowledge of professional documentation guidelines are essential.

Responsibilities

• Reviews patient records to determine E/M level, assigns CPT/ICD codes, and abstracts data.
