Job description

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. The award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

To qualify, applicants must meet the basic and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending applicants may be considered tentatively but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met initial appointment requirements under previous standards are deemed to meet the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:

• U.S. Citizenship (non-citizens only if qualified citizens are unavailable)
• Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an approved school
• Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in the U.S.
• Completion of residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification
• For academic physicians, board certification may be required for faculty status
• Residencies approved by ACGME, AOA, or equivalent programs with at least five years of verified practice in the U.S.
• Residents in approved programs are eligible as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) under supervision
• Proficiency in spoken and written English

Duties

• Provide outpatient cardiology services at Castle Point, NY
• Interpret EKGs, transthoracic echocardiograms, ambulatory monitors, and participate in stress testing
• Evaluate patients, determine treatment plans, and document in electronic records
• Participate in service and hospital committees, peer review, and maintain professional competency
• Perform other duties as needed based on facility requirements
