Summary

The Cardiac Anesthesiologist Physician position is located in the Anesthesiology Service at the Manhattan VA Medical Center. This position supports the Network 2 Mission to care for our Veterans with compassion and excellence. The role involves providing a broad range of anesthesiology interventions to Veterans receiving care at the VAMC. The anesthesiologist functions as a cooperative and collegial team member with the entire staff.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the initial appointment requirements are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:

• United States Citizenship (non-citizens may be appointed if qualified citizens are unavailable)
• Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an approved school
• Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in the U.S.
• Completion of residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification
• Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs are eligible as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and appointed on an intermittent or fee basis, and are not considered independent practitioners
• Proficiency in spoken and written English
• TEE experience/certification is required
• Physical requirements per VA Directive and Handbook 5019

Duties

• The VA New York Harbor Healthcare System includes three medical centers and two outpatient clinics, including the Manhattan VA, Brooklyn Campus, and St. Alban's campus.
• The full-time Cardiac Anesthesiologist should have a cardiac anesthesiology fellowship and recent TAVR/structural heart disease expertise.
• The incumbent will be assigned to the Manhattan VA, handling cardiac cases including TAVR and structural heart procedures, participating in cardiac call rotations, and adapting to case availability.
• Understanding of TAVR procedures and anesthetic challenges is essential for providing safe care, with preparedness for complications and contingency planning.
• Participation in team meetings, preoperative evaluations, and documentation is required.
