Job summary

Baylor Scott & White Health is seeking a Physician Assistant for an Urgent Care in Texas. The PA will provide direct patient care, exercise prescriptive authority within supervision, and be credentialed and billed as an independent provider under the supervising physician’s scope.

This outpatient role emphasizes collaboration with physicians and team members, fast-paced urgent-care settings, and opportunities for professional growth within a large integrated health system.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited PA program.
  • Current Texas PA license; BLS within 30 days; NCCPA credential.
  • Less than 1 year of experience is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patients’ physical and mental condition through examinations and histories.
  • Order, collect, interpret labs and diagnostics.
  • Prescribe or recommend therapies and perform procedures as allowed.
  • Collaborate with physicians and team; monitor patient response to care.

Job Summary

The Physician Assistant (PA) – Urgent Care is a licensed, certified healthcare provider who renders direct patient care and has prescriptive authority. The PA is credentialed, privileged, and billed as an independent provider by Medicare and Medicaid, while also operating within the supervising physician’s scope of practice.

Essential Functions of the Role
  • Assess patients’ physical and mental condition through comprehensive or problem‑focused examinations and histories.
  • Order, collect, interpret, and evaluate laboratory and other diagnostic tests to assess patient problems and healthcare needs.
  • Prescribe or recommend medical drug therapies or other therapeutic treatments; perform procedures following approved policies, focusing on efficacy, safety, and cost.
  • Formulate and implement comprehensive patient treatment plans based on assessments, evidence‑based medicine, standards, and guidelines.
  • Collaborate with physicians and team members when appropriate and evaluate patients’ response to care and its effectiveness.
  • Counsel patients and families on medical processes, illness management, medication, nutrition, and health promotion.
  • Maintain appropriate records detailing the patient’s treatment plans and outcomes.
  • Initiate timely consultation and referral when the problem exceeds scope of practice or expertise.
  • Provide consultation‑level services for conditions related to the provider’s specialty and training.
  • Perform invasive procedures specific to scope of practice and level of expertise as delegated by the supervising Physician.
  • May be required to perform patient‑care duties beyond the regular schedule based on coverage needs of the department.

  • Ability to interpret and evaluate laboratory and other diagnostic tests.
  • Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the state of Texas.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire or transfer.
  • Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant (NCCPA).
