Qualifications

  • Graduate of an Accredited Physician Assistant Program.
  • Less than 1 year of experience is acceptable.
  • Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in Texas is required.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and diagnose patient conditions by performing exams.

Job description

Position Highlights
  • Outpatient Internal Medicine practice serving adult patients (18+)
  • Enhanced Care Team (ECT) model with strong physician and APP collaboration
  • Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM schedule
  • Preferred Experience: At least 2 years
  • Opportunity to care for a diverse adult patient population, including new patients, follow-up visits, acute access, and established patients
  • Individual patient panel with dedicated in-basket management
  • Rotating phone call coverage shared among GAR APPs and physicians
  • Perform office-based procedures (to be discussed during the interview process)
  • Collaborative team consisting of 4 clinicians onsite with support from dedicated Medical Assistants and Front Desk (PSS) staff
  • 20 patients per day at full capacity
  • Comprehensive onboarding including Epic outpatient training, provider shadowing, and a graduated patient schedule to support a successful transition

Job Summary

The Physician Assistant (PA) Primary Care is a licensed, certified healthcare provider. They provide direct patient care and have prescriptive authority. They are credentialed, privileged, and billed as an independent provider by Medicare and Medicaid. The Advanced Practice Provider offers medical care based on the supervising physician’s scope of practice.

These providers typically provide care to patients in an internal medicine, family medicine, geriatric or pediatric clinic.

Essential Functions of the Role
  • Assess the physical and mental condition of patients by performing comprehensive or problem‑focused physical exams and obtaining medical histories.
  • Orders, collects, interprets, and evaluates laboratory and other diagnostic tests to assess patient problems and health care needs.
  • Prescribes, recommends, or uses medical drug therapies or other treatments. Performs procedures following approved protocols, focusing on efficacy, safety, and cost.
  • Recommends interventions to modify behavior associated with health risks.
  • Creates and carries out detailed patient treatment plans based on assessments, evidence‑based medicine, and care standards. Collaborates with physicians and team members when needed.
  • Evaluates patient’s response to health care provided and the effectiveness of care.
  • Counsels patients and families regarding medical processes, management of the health illness/condition, medication, nutrition, and health promotion.
  • Counsels patients about drug regimens and possible side effects. Discusses interactions with substances like food supplements, over‑the‑counter medications, and herbal remedies.
  • Maintains appropriate records detailing the patient’s treatment plans and outcomes. Initiates timely consultation and referral when the problem exceeds scope or expertise.
  • Provide consultation level services for conditions/problems related to the Provider’s specialty and training.
  • Perform invasive procedures specific to scope of practice as delegated by supervising Physician.
  • May provide care to patients in a team‑based model. Focus on acute and chronic illness management and population health.
Key Success Factors
  • Knowledge of information and techniques is needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health‑care measures.
  • Knowledge of practices, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions.

  • Skill in the use of computers and related software applications.
  • Ability to develop and implement comprehensive outcomes‑based patient treatment plans.

  • Ability to interpret and evaluate laboratory and other diagnostic tests.
  • Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the state of Texas.
  • Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire or transfer.
  • Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant (NCCPA).
