Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited Physician's Assistant program.
  • Current licensure in the State of Ohio.
  • Graduate of an approved formal training program for surgical assisting or equivalent certification.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in sterile technique and aseptic practices.
  • Knowledge of medications used within an outpatient surgical environment.
  • Knowledge of suture materials and types of skin stitches.
  • Ability to prioritize work assignments and maintain flexibility in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to meet requirements/qualifications for clinical privileges within 90 days.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver direct patient care and manage health problems; refer to other providers as needed.
  • Provide pre-, intra-, and post-operative care; assist in the OR.
  • Inpatient management of surgical patients and OR assistance.
  • Manage complex illnesses and deliver specialty care.
  • Supportive role to provide optimum care to surgical patients.
  • Uphold the system-wide customer service program standards.

Job description

Physician Assistant

General Surgery

The MetroHealth System, Cleveland OH

As the site of the county's most experienced Level I Adult Trauma Center and Level II Pediatric Trauma Center, we offer one of the only two adult and pediatric burn centers in the state of Ohio. Accommodating a total of more than one million patient visits annually, MetroHealth is an academic medical center for teaching and research and is affiliated with Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. In addition, it has earned Magnet status for nursing excellence.

Multiple locations including the main hospital and satellites (west and south of Cleveland)

In collaboration with a physician, these professionals will deliver direct patient care, including identification and management of health problems and/or referral for consultation to other health care providers. Offering pre-, intra-, and post-operative care, these individuals will be responsible primarily for in patient management of surgical patients and assisting in the OR.

Additional responsibilities include:
  • Managing complex illnesses and delivering specialty care.
  • Functioning in a supportive role to provide optimum care to surgical patients.
  • Upholding the standards of the system-wide customer service program.
What you will need to succeed:
Required Credentials:
  • Graduation from an accredited Physician's Assistant program.
  • Current licensure in the State of Ohio.
  • Graduate of an approved formal training program for surgical assisting or appropriate related certification from an approved military surgical assisting program.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of sterile technique and aseptic practices.
  • Knowledge of medications used within an outpatient surgical environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of suture material and different types of skin stitches.
  • Ability to prioritize work assignments and maintain flexibility in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to meet the requirements/qualifications for clinical privileges with The MetroHealth System within 90 days of placement within position and maintain privileges.
