Job summary

Sports Medicine North, north of Boston, is seeking a full-time Physician Assistant to join its orthopedic team. The PA will provide clinic and OR support to the surgeons and participate in first assistant duties at the on-site ambulatory surgery center.

The position offers a generous compensation package, 4 weeks PTO, 401k, CME allowance, and a supportive team environment. Massachusetts license and board certification are required, with orthopedic experience preferred; new grads are welcome to

Job description

Sports Medicine North, a multi-specialty orthopedic practice north of Boston, has an excellent opportunity for a full-time Physician Assistant to join its dynamic team. The Physician Assistant will provide clinic and OR support to the group’s orthopedic surgeons. This well-regarded practice of 24 sub-specialty trained physicians offers a highly collegial and supportive work environment.

Highlights

• Performs complete physical exams, obtains complete medical history and records findings
• Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures. Interprets and integrates data to determine diagnosis and therapeutic plan
• Collaborates with physicians in managing acute and long-term medical needs of patients
• Performs first assistant surgical duties, including tissue retraction and suturing
• Provides monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits
• Administers medications and injections in compliance with state law and clinic guidelines
• Instructs patients/families regarding medications and treatments
• Educates patients regarding health and illness prevention, surgical procedures and expectations in perioperative period
• Actively supports patient safety program; adheres to applicable patient safety standards including NQF Safe Practices
• Triages patient telephone calls and provides consultation as necessary
• Conducts post-operative evaluations
• Hospital rounding / call responsibilities
• Performs necessary administrative duties consistent with role including EMR and billing inputs
• Identifies emergency situations and uses sound judgement in instituting established procedures to respond to emergencies in a calm and efficient manner
