Baylor Scott & White Health has an opening for a Physician Assistant to join our Sports/Joints Team in Waco/Hillcrest, Texas.

We seek a dedicated team player with a positive work/training history, focused on quality, and able to collaborate effectively with physicians, agencies, and professionals to provide optimal patient care within our award-winning healthcare system.

The PA Surgical Specialty - Non-Operative is a licensed, certified healthcare provider who delivers direct patient care, has delegated prescriptive authority, and is credentialed and privileged. The service is billed independently as recognized by Medicare and Medicaid, according to the relevant board. The Physician Assistant provides medical care within the scope of practice defined by the supervising physician.

Surgical providers care for both adult and pediatric patients, specializing in areas such as General Surgery, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Otolaryngology, and others.

Essential Functions of the Role
  1. Assess patients' physical and mental conditions through examinations and histories.
  2. Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to determine patient needs.
  3. Prescribe and recommend therapies, medications, and procedures in accordance with policies, focusing on safety and efficacy.
  4. Develop and implement patient treatment plans based on assessments, evidence-based medicine, and guidelines, collaborating with physicians when needed.
  5. Counsel patients and families on medical processes, medication management, nutrition, and health promotion.
  6. Maintain detailed records of treatment plans and outcomes, and initiate referrals when necessary.
  7. Provide consultation services related to the specialty and level of training.
  8. Manage patients in various healthcare settings beyond primary clinics, including inpatient and emergency services.
  9. Perform invasive procedures within scope and delegated by the supervising physician.
  10. Conduct follow-ups pre- and post-operatively, and may round on hospital patients or see emergency department cases.
  11. Perform additional duties as required by coverage needs.
Key Success Factors
  • Knowledge of diagnosing and treating injuries, diseases, and deformities, including drug properties and interactions.
  • Understanding of diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation practices.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency with computers and healthcare software.
  • Ability to develop comprehensive treatment plans and counsel patients effectively.
  • Current Texas Physician Assistant license, BLS certification within 30 days, and NCCPA certification.
Schedule

Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, outpatient and inpatient care.
