JOB SUMMARY

Baylor Scott & White Health has an opening for a Physician Assistant to join our Sports/Joints Team in Waco/Hillcrest, Texas. We seek a dedicated team player with a positive work and training history, focused on quality and effective collaboration with referring physicians, agencies, and professionals to provide optimal patient care within our integrated healthcare system.

The PA in Surgical Specialty - Non-Operative role is a licensed, certified healthcare provider who delivers direct patient care, possesses delegated prescriptive authority, and is credentialed and privileged to bill independently as recognized by Medicare and Medicaid, in accordance with the relevant board. The Advanced Practice Provider provides medical care within the scope of practice defined by the supervising physician. Surgical providers care for both adult and pediatric patients, specializing in areas such as General Surgery, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Otolaryngology, Cosmetic, Vascular, Trauma, Transplant, Urology, Plastics, or other surgical specialties.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
  1. Assess patients' physical and mental conditions through examinations and histories.
  2. Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to assess healthcare needs.
  3. Prescribe and recommend medical therapies and perform procedures according to approved policies, ensuring safety and efficacy.
  4. Develop and implement patient treatment plans based on assessments, evidence-based medicine, and guidelines, collaborating with physicians and team members.
  5. Counsel patients and families on medical processes, medication management, nutrition, and health promotion.
  6. Maintain detailed records of treatment plans and outcomes, initiating referrals as needed.
  7. Provide consultation services related to the provider's specialty and experience.
  8. Manage patients in various healthcare settings beyond primary clinics, such as inpatient or emergency services.
  9. Perform invasive procedures within scope and expertise, delegated by the supervising physician.
  10. Conduct follow-ups pre- and post-operatively and may round on hospital patients or see emergency department cases.
  11. Perform additional duties as required based on departmental coverage needs.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
  • Knowledge of diagnosing and treating injuries, diseases, and deformities, including symptoms, treatments, drug interactions, and preventive care.
  • Understanding of diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation practices for physical and mental dysfunctions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interpersonal skills and critical thinking abilities.
  • Proficiency with computers and related software.
  • Ability to develop and implement outcomes-based treatment plans.
  • Capability to counsel patients on medical and psychological conditions and behavior modifications.
  • Skill in interpreting diagnostic tests.
  • Current Texas Physician Assistant license.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire or transfer.
  • Certification by the NCCPA.
SCHEDULE

Monday to Friday, 8 am - 5 pm, outpatient and inpatient settings.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduation from an accredited program.
  • Less than 1 year of experience preferred.
  • Current BLS certification within 30 days of hire or transfer.
  • Current Texas PA license.
