Job summary

Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Wilkes-Barre, PA is seeking a Cardiovascular Thoracic Surgery Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join our Heart Institute. You will work with a multidisciplinary CT surgery team to guide patients through their surgical journey from evaluation to recovery.

This role requires a Master’s in PA and NCCPA certification; you will coordinate preoperative testing, scheduling, and education, perform postoperative rounds, and support discharge planning

Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Physician Assistant is required.
• NCCPA certification is required to practice as a physician assistant.

Responsibilities

• Join our collaborative cardiothoracic surgery team and guide patients through every stage of their surgical journey, from initial evaluation to postoperative recovery.
• Evaluate and prepare patients for cardiothoracic surgery in partnership with cardiac surgeons.
• Coordinate preoperative testing, surgical scheduling, medical clearances, and patient education.
• Manage outpatient referrals and participate in Heart Team discussions for valve and structural heart patients.
• Round on postoperative cardiac surgery patients and assist with ongoing inpatient management.
• Coordinate discharges, follow-up care, and recovery planning.
• Conduct postoperative visits and manage patient questions, phone calls, and portal messages.
