Medical Oncology Physician Assistant, Ambulatory Chief PA, and PA Fellowship Director at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute

About PAs at Dana-Farber

As a clinical and research leader, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute remains committed to advancing the delivery of cancer care. A core component of that model has been through our talented and dedicated Physician Assistants (PAs). Spanning inpatient and ambulatory settings, and through nearly every disease center, Dana-Farber PAs work in collaborative teams to provide patients and families with world-class cancer care.

The Dana-Farber PA Program is well-established and supported by the Institute, and continues to evolve as the nature of health care delivery changes. The program is led by a diverse team of experienced experts who are committed to the ongoing growth and development of the program's initiatives — andthe Postgraduate PA Oncology Fellowship is one such example.

About the Postgraduate PA Oncology Fellowship

Dana-Farber's 12-month Postgraduate Physician Assistant Oncology Fellowship is an immersive clinical program focused on preparing PAs for a career in oncology. This Fellowship combines a comprehensive educational curriculum with clinical training in all major oncologic disease groups. PA Fellows will work alongside PA, MD, and nursing colleagues to deliver world-class cancer care.

Throughout the Fellowship, experiences will be organized around a disease-specific curriculum, and Fellows will be supported directly by mentors in each clinical setting. Fellows rotating through inpatient services will join teams that care for patients with varied oncologic diseases, illnesses, and complexities.

Additionally, Fellows will attend a wide variety of teaching conferences that will advance their understanding of comprehensive cancer care and clinical research at Dana-Farber. Fellows will grow and be supported by a dedicated staff and the larger Dana-Farber community. Fellows will graduate with a comprehensive understanding of cancer care, which will pave the way for an enriching career in oncology.

Benefits of a Dana-Farber PA Oncology Fellowship

Dana-Farber is a proven leader in PA education, training, and clinical practice. Because the PA Oncology Fellowship is led by a highly experienced team, you will:

  • Gain unique clinical and academic experiences in the perpetually evolving field of oncology, which would otherwise not be available to PAs hired into full-time positions.
  • Develop longstanding mentor-mentee relationships with experienced staff — nurturing a longstanding and satisfying career in oncology.
  • Be fully credentialed with full scope of practice.
  • Enjoy a salaried position with competitive benefits (health, dental, etc.), pay, and CME support.
  • Become a sought-after candidate for oncology positions at Dana-Farber and nationally.
Eligibility
  • Applicant must be a current PA student (PA-S) at an accredited program or NCCPA certified PA (PA-C) in good standing.
  • PA-S applicants must be eligible to take the PANCE. An offer of acceptance is contingent upon passing the national certifying exam.
  • Applicant must have successfully completed, or be in good standing in, an accredited PA masters level program.
  • Applicant must have an active Massachusetts PA license, DEA license, and MCSR registration prior to the start of the Fellowship.
  • Applicant must have ACLS and BLS certification within 30 days of starting fellowship (Dana-Farber can support this).
Requirements
  • Two statements. Requirements for both statements: no more than 1 page in length, standard font and spacing:
  • Statement #1: Please explain your interest in the Dana-Farber postgraduate PA Oncology Fellowship and in oncology as a whole.
  • Statement #2: What do you view as an important issue facing society and medicine today, and what is your personal relationship or perspective on this issue?
  • Copy of Curriculum Vitae or professional resume
  • Three letters of recommendation:
  • Letter #1 must be from either the Clinical or Medical Director of the applicant's PA graduate program and dated no more than six months prior to the application date. This letter must reflect current standing in the PA program and list completed rotations.
  • Letter #2: must be from a clinical preceptor who has worked with the applicant closely during their clinical rotation year. There is no specific rotation requirement, but Internal Medicine, Ambulatory Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or Oncology elective rotations are encouraged. For practicing PAs we ask for a manager who can comment on your clinical ability to write a reference letter in place of a preceptor.
  • Letter #3: must be a character reference from any clinical preceptor or previous employer who knows the applicant well and can comment on clinical performance and bedside manner.

Copy of government-issued ID: current/unexpired driver's license, passport, or state photo ID.
