Job summary

Fairweather, a Doyon, Limited company, seeks experienced Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners to provide high-quality medical care in Alaska’s remote locations. You’ll work on rotation—typically two weeks on and two weeks off—balancing clinical work with travel and personal time.

Qualifications

  • Licensed Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner eligible to practice in Alaska
  • Current NCCPA or applicable NP national certification
  • Active DEA registration
  • Current BLS and ACLS
  • Three+ years of experience in family medicine, internal medicine, urgent care, emergency medicine, or a comparable clinical setting
  • Strong clinical judgment and ability to work independently
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Remote, rural, occupational health, or emergency medicine experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, diagnose, and treat illnesses and injuries
  • Provide occupational medical care
  • Assess and stabilize medical emergencies and trauma
  • Coordinate patient transport and MEDEVAC when appropriate
  • Perform point-of-care testing and ECGs
  • Prescribe and dispense medications within scope

Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner – Remote Alaska

Fairweather is looking for experienced Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners interested in a unique opportunity to provide high-quality medical care in some of Alaska’s most remote locations.

Our providers work rotational schedules—typically two weeks on/two weeks off—offering extended time away from work throughout the year. Whether you're looking for a regular rotational position or the flexibility of fill-in assignments, Fairweather offers opportunities to combine meaningful clinical work with a schedule that leaves time for travel, family, and life outside of work.

As a Fairweather provider, you’ll practice with a high degree of autonomy while supported by an experienced medical team and Medical Director. Our remote clinics serve Alaska’s workforce and provide a mix of acute care, occupational medicine, emergency response, and stabilization.

What You’ll Do

You’ll serve as the on-site medical provider for employees working in remote locations. Depending on the project, your responsibilities may include:

  • Evaluate, diagnose, and treat acute illnesses and injuries
  • Provide occupational medical care
  • Assess and stabilize medical emergencies and trauma
  • Determine when a higher level of care or medical evacuation is necessary
  • Coordinate patient transport and MEDEVAC when appropriate
  • Perform point-of-care laboratory testing, ECGs, and other diagnostic procedures
  • Prescribe and dispense medications within your scope of practice and collaborative agreement
  • Coordinate referrals and follow-up care
  • Maintain accurate medical records and required occupational health documentation
  • Participate in site safety, emergency response, and medical preparedness activities

Patient volume and clinical needs vary by project and location.

What We’re Looking For
  • Licensed Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner eligible to practice in Alaska
  • Current NCCPA or applicable NP national certification
  • Active DEA registration
  • Current BLS and ACLS
  • Three or more years of experience in family medicine, internal medicine, urgent care, emergency medicine, or a comparable clinical setting
  • Strong clinical judgment and the ability to work independently
  • Valid driver’s license

Remote, rural, occupational health, or emergency medicine experience is highly valued but not required for every assignment. ATLS or similar trauma training is preferred.
