Job summary

OrthoCarolina is seeking a Physician Assistant Fellow to provide medical care under orthopedic surgeons and APPs in both office and hospital settings.

Responsibilities include assisting in OR, rounds, and patient management; comprehensive assessments; ordering and interpreting tests; and documenting care with accurate records. North Carolina PA license and NCCPA certification are required.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of AMA accredited physician assistant program.
  • North Carolina PA license required.
  • Certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

Responsibilities

  • Assist physicians and APPs in office and hospital settings for orthopedic care.
  • Support in operating room as needed and in emergency room/floor consultations.
  • Examine patients, gather medical data, and document history and physicals.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests in collaboration with surgeons and staff.
  • Perform injections, wound care, suturing, and immobilization management.
  • Develop patient management plans and maintain records and codes.

The Physician Assistant Fellow is responsible for providing medical care as delegated by OrthoCarolina physician(s) and/or APPs.

Responsibilities may include assisting the physician and/or APPs in both the office and hospital setting, independent clinics seeing patients with a variety of orthopedic injuries and illnesses, assisting in the operating room as needed, and performing emergency room and floor consultations.

Essential Functions:
  • Examines patient, performs comprehensive physical examination, and compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination.
  • Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as x-ray, MRI, and laboratory tests, and interprets test results in collaboration with orthopedic surgeons/staff.
  • Performs therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care, and managing infection.
  • Assesses, applies and/or removes a variety of orthopedic casts, splints, and immobilization devices.
  • Serves as assist‑at‑surgery for orthopedic procedures.
  • Develops and implements patient management plans, records progress notes, applies appropriate codes and charges for service, and assists in provision of continuity of care.
  • Dictates patient records including discharge summaries, history and physical evaluations, operative procedure notes, consultations and office visit notes.
  • Documents patient information and care provided in patient record.
  • Uses computer to access/enter needed data.
  • Rounds on hospital inpatients as directed by supervising physician(s) to hospitals assigned and performs emergency room and floor consultations as assigned.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Accurately evaluate patient problems and providing appropriate advice, intervention or referral.
  • Skill in evaluating and revising care plans based on patient changes.
Qualifications:

Graduate of AMA accredited physician assistant program.

North Carolina PA license

Certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants
