Job summary

OrthoCarolina is seeking a Physician Assistant to support providers at the Mt. Airy location. The PA will assist physicians in clinic, managing patients with a variety of orthopedic injuries and illnesses.

Responsibilities include performing physical exams, ordering tests, performing injections and wound care, applying casts, and developing care plans. Applicants must be a graduate of an AMA accredited PA program, hold NC licensure, and NCCPA certification. Orthopedic experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Graduate of AMA accredited physician assistant program.
• Current NC licensure.
• Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
• Prior experience as a physician assistant is required.
• Prior orthopedic experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Examines patient and compiles medical data including history and physical results.
• Orders/interprets diagnostic tests with orthopedic surgeons.
• Performs procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care.
• Assesses/removes casts, splints and immobilization devices.
• Develops and implements patient management plans and records progress notes.
• Dockets discharge summaries, history/physicals, operative notes and consultations.
• Documents patient information in patient records and progress.
• Uses computer to access and enter data.

We are currently searching for an APP to work with our providers in our Mt. Airy location.

The Physician Assistant will be responsible for providing medical care as delegated by OrthoCarolina physician(s). Responsibilities include assisting the physician in the clinic seeing patients with a variety of orthopedic injuries and illnesses.

Essential Functions

• Examines patient, performs comprehensive physical examination, and compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination.


• Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as x-ray, electrocardiogram, and laboratory tests, and interprets test results in collaboration with orthopedic surgeons/staff.


• Performs therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care, and managing infection.


• Assesses, applies and/or removes a variety of orthopedic casts, splints, and immobilization devices.


• Develops and implements patient management plans, records progress notes, applies appropriate codes and charges for service, and assists in provision of continuity of care.


• Dictates patient records including discharge summaries, history and physical evaluations, operative procedure notes, consultations and office visit notes.


• Documents patient information and care provided in patient record.


• Uses computer to access/enter needed data.

Skills and Abilities

• Accurately evaluate patient problems in person or via phone and providing appropriate advice, intervention or referral.


• Skill in evaluating and revising care plans based on patient changes.

Qualifications

• Graduate of AMA accredited physician assistant program.


• Current in the following: North Carolina licensure


• Certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants


• Prior experience as a physician assistant is required.


• Prior experience in the field of orthopedics is preferred.
