GENERAL OVERVIEW:

Identifies and manages medical problems within the Physician Assistant's scope of practice in a critical care setting.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provides patient care, including completing daily rounds on critical care patients, recording medical history and physical assessments, developing care plans, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, and coordinating discharge plans (40%).
2. Accurately documents critical care activities in the electronic medical record (10%).
3. Performs compliant billing of critical care services where appropriate (5%).
4. Participates in educational activities for trainees, including PA fellows (15%).
5. Communicates with attending physicians regarding care plans and involves physicians in clinical decision-making when necessary (10%).
6. Prepares prescription orders for medications as per the supervising physician’s written agreement (10%).
7. Educates patients and families about health, illness prevention, medication, and treatment instructions; recommends community resources as needed (10%).
8. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

• Bachelor's Degree
• Current PA Physician Assistant License or eligibility, with licensure obtained within 90 days of employment
• ACLS certification
• CPR certification (American Heart Association)
• Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance
• Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance
• Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Clearance

Preferred

• Master’s Degree
• 1-3 years of critical care or emergency experience
