Job Description :

GENERAL OVERVIEW:

Identifies and manages medical problems within the Physician Assistant's scope of practice in a critical care setting.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provides appropriate patient care, including: completing daily patient care rounds on critical care patients, recording patient medical history and physical assessments, developing plans of care, ordering diagnostic tests, interpreting test results, and coordinating discharge plans (40%).
2. Accurately documents critical care activities in the electronic medical record (10%).
3. Performs compliant billing of critical care services as appropriate (5%).
4. Participates in educational processes for trainees (including PA fellows), as appropriate (15%).
5. Communicates with attending physicians regarding plans of care and involves physicians in clinical decision-making for issues outside the Physician Assistant's scope or knowledge (10%).
6. Prepares written prescription orders for drugs as defined in the written agreement with supervising physicians (10%).
7. Educates patients and families about health, illness prevention, medication, treatment instructions, and recommends community resources as needed (10%).
8. Performs all other duties as assigned or required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum:

• Bachelor's Degree
• Current PA Physician Assistant License or eligibility, with a requirement to obtain license within 90 days of employment
• ACLS certification
• CPR – American Heart Association
• Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
• Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
• Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate

Preferred:

• Master’s Degree
• 1-3 years of critical care or emergency experience
