Job summary

Prisma Health in Richland, SC seeks a qualified Physician Assistant to provide assistant surgical services in the operating room under Cardiothoracic surgeons. You will participate in vein harvesting, assist with thoracic procedures, and support postoperative care.

This role requires completion of a PA program, cardiothoracic experience, and active certification. You will document care for billing and participate in quality improvement initiatives to help transform healthcare for the communities

Qualifications

• Completion of a Physician Assistant Program or Program Certificate equivalent.
• 1 year of Cardiothoracic clinical experience.

• Removes chest tubes and pacing wires.
• Closes thoracic incisions.
• Performs charting, summaries, and required paperwork for care and billing.

• Assists in post-operative care including daily rounds and wound assessments.
• Participates in quality assurance, utilization management, and revenue enhancement initiatives.

Job Summary

Provides assistant surgical services in the operating room as well as other selected medical services under the direction of Cardiothoracic surgeons.

Accountabilities

• Provides general surgical assistant services in operating room.
• Harvests veins in OR.
• Removes chest tubes and pacing wires.
• Closes thoracic incisions.
• Removes intra aortic baloon pumps.
• Performs all charting, summaries, correspondence, and required paperwork for purposes of documenting care and billing.
• Participates in physician educational programs provided by employer relative to capitated medicine and implications relative to physician practice patterns.
• Participates in:

• Establishment of quality assurance programs
• Establishment of Utilization management programs
• Selection of management information systems
• Development of patient education surveys
• Development of patient satisfaction surveys
• Assists in the development of operational and capital budgets
• Participates in operational assessments in search of revenue enhancement, expense reductions, consolidation efficiencies and billing opportunities.
• Assists in post-operative care of patients including daily rounds and wound assessments.

Supervisory/Management Responsibility

This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.

Minimum Requirements

• Completion of a Physician Assistant Program or Program Certificate equivalent
• 1 year of Cardiothoracic clinical experience

Required Certifications/Registrations Licenses

• South Carolina Physician Assistant License - C039
• Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants
• South Carolina Controlled Substance license; Federal DEA license, Prescriptive Authority for South Carolina

In Lieu Of The Above Minimum Requirements

Completion of Physician Assistant Surgical Residency Program or approved Surgical Physician Assistant graduate program

Team members employed in this job prior to July 1, 2020 are grandfathered under prior educational and experience requirements. In addition, team members must be certification eligible and will have one year to obtain required certification.
