Job summary

Prisma Health is seeking a Physician Assistant to provide assistant surgical services in the operating room under Cardiothoracic surgeons. The role includes vein harvesting, chest tube/pacing wire management, thoracic incision closure, and post-operative patient care.

Requirements include completion of a PA program, SC PA license, NCCPA certification, and CT surgical residency consideration. Day shift in Richland,SC with opportunities for budget involvement and professional education.

Qualifications

• Completion of a Physician Assistant Program or Program Certificate equivalent.
• 1 year of Cardiothoracic clinical experience.
• South Carolina Physician Assistant License - C039.
• Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
• South Carolina Controlled Substance license; Federal DEA license, Prescriptive Authority for South Carolina.
• In lieu of the above minimum requirements: PA Surgical Residency Program or approved Surgical Physician Assistant graduate program.
• Certification eligible and up to one year to obtain required certification for staff joined before July 1, 2020.

Responsibilities

• Provides assistant surgical services in the operating room as directed by Cardiothoracic surgeons.
• Harvests veins in OR.
• Removes chest tubes and pacing wires.
• Closes thoracic incisions.
• Removes intra-aortic balloon pumps.
• Performs charting, summaries, correspondence, and required paperwork for documenting care and billing.
• Participates in physician educational programs related to capitated medicine and practice patterns.
• Assists in development of operational and capital budgets.
• Participates in operational assessments for revenue enhancement, expense reductions, consolidation efficiencies and billing opportunities.
• Assists in post-operative care of patients including daily rounds and wound assessments.

Accountabilities

• Provides general surgical assistant services in operating room.

• Harvests veins in OR.

• Removes chest tubes and pacing wires.

• Closes thoracic incisions.

• Removes intra aortic baloon pumps.

• Performs all charting, summaries, correspondence, and required paperwork for purposes of documenting care and billing.

• Participates in physician educational programs provided by employer relative to capitated medicine and implications relative to physician practice patterns.

• Participates in:

• Assists in the development of operational and capital budgets

• Participates in operational assessments in search of revenue enhancement, expense reductions, consolidation efficiencies and billing opportunities.

• Assists in post-operative care of patients including daily rounds and wound assessments.

Supervisory/Management Responsibility

This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.

Minimum Requirements

• Completion of a Physician Assistant Program or Program Certificate equivalent
• 1 year of Cardiothoracic clinical experience
