Physician Assistant
Job Summary

The Advanced Practice Clinician (physician assistant/nurse practitioner) role in the Division of Transplant Surgery provides care to patients at the University of Utah Hospital. The individual will provide care for kidney, pancreas and liver transplant recipients, general surgery patients and will also participate in inpatient pre‑liver transplant evaluations. This is an inpatient APC role. The Transplant Surgery service currently consists of 4 Attending Surgeons, 7 inpatient APCs and 2 outpatient APCs.

This position is considered Category I: Mandatory and required on‑campus or health care facilities to support on‑site operations. Employees hired into this category will be required to be physically located at the work site if they are healthy and without COVID‑19 symptoms.

Responsibilities
  • 14 shifts per month (12 hour shifts), including holidays, nights and weekends.
  • Multidisciplinary inpatient rounding, pre and post‑operative care, and hospital discharges.
  • Assist in the operating room as needed—for kidney, pancreas, liver transplant, laparoscopic/robotic hernia repairs, liver resections, peritoneal dialysis catheter insertions/removals, nephrectomies (current estimated need is 1–3 days a month).
  • Develop treatment plans in conjunction with attending physicians to provide optimal patient management.
  • Maintain all required documentation for patient care.
  • Order consultations and interact with members of other specialty medical teams.
  • Cover consultations from the emergency department or other hospital services.
  • Respond to outpatient messages and telephone calls.
  • Participate in continuing medical education to include specialty and sub‑specialty meetings, clubs, boards and conferences.
  • Assist in the collection for research projects.
  • Participate in special projects and committee functions including Division meetings and education conferences.
  • Participate in and present Morbidity and Mortality presentations.
  • Participate in kidney and liver transplant selection committees.
Minimum Qualifications
Required
  • Current licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant from the State of Utah.
  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
Preferred
  • Certification in ACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria.
