Job summary

University of Utah Health is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to join the Division of Transplant Surgery as an Advanced Practice Clinician. The role provides inpatient care for kidney, pancreas, and liver transplant recipients, as well as general surgery patients.

You will participate in pre-liver transplant evaluations and multidisciplinary rounds. Responsibilities include 14 shifts per month of 12-hour length, postoperative care, and assisting in the operating room as needed.

Qualifications

  • Licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in Utah.
  • Master's degree in Nursing or equivalent required; national certification.
  • Utah licensure and prescriptive privileges as applicable.

Job description

PS Nurse Practitioner

The Advanced Practice Clinician (physician assistant/nursepractitioner) role in the Division of Transplant Surgery provides care to patients at the University of Utah Hospital. Individual will provide care for kidney, pancreas and liver transplant recipients, general surgery patients and will also participate in inpatient pre-liver transplant evaluations. This is an inpatient APC role. The Transplant Surgery service currently consists of 4 Attending Surgeons, 7 inpatient APCs and 2 outpatient APCs. Responsibilities
  • 14 shifts per month (12 hour shifts), including holidays, nights and weekends.
  • Multidisciplinary inpatient rounding, pre and postoperative care, and hospital discharges.
  • Assist in the operating room as needed—for kidney, pancreas, liver transplant, laparoscopic/robotic hernia repairs, liver resections, peritoneal dialysis catheter insertions/removals, nephrectomies (current estimated need is 1-3 days a month).
  • Develops treatment plans in conjunction with attending physicians to provide optimal patient management.
  • Maintains all required documentation for patient care.
  • Orders consultations and interacts with members of other specialty medical teams.
  • Cover consultations from the emergency department or other hospital services.
  • Respond to outpatient messages and telephone calls.
  • Participate in continuing medical education to include specialty and sub-specialty meetings, clubs, boards and conferences.
  • Assist in the collection for research projects.
  • Participate in special projects and committee functions including Division meetings and education conferences.
  • Participates in and presents Morbidity and Mortality presentations.
  • Participates in kidney and liver transplant selection committees.
Minimum Qualifications
Required
  • Licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Utah.
Preferred
  • Certification in ACLS, BLS, NRP or ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria.
  • Utah State prescriptive privileges.
  • Licensure is obtained by completing a Master's degree in Nursing or equivalency (the only equivalency to the Master's degree is current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner) and a National Certification that requires the successful completion of a nationally accredited examination.
  • UHPPM 1-56 requires that newly hired non-physician providers apply for credentialing and privileging at the time of hire.
  • This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements.
