Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and manage patients, including histories, examinations and treatment planning.
  • Perform ophthalmic procedures within training and scope of practice.
  • Assist physicians with in-office and surgical procedures.
  • Provide patient education and follow-up care.
  • Document care accurately in the EMR and coordinate follow-up as directed by supervision.

Description

Position Title: Physician Assistant
Employment Type: Full-Time
Location: Cascade Eye Care, with travel to other clinic locations as needed
Reports To: Supervising Physician and/or Clinical Leadership
Position Summary

The Physician Assistant provides direct patient care in collaboration with ophthalmologists and the clinical care team. The position evaluates and manages patients, performs and supports procedures, provides patient education and follow-up care, and maintains accurate clinical documentation. Training and mentorship in ophthalmic care and procedures may be provided.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and manage patients, including obtaining histories, conducting examinations, and supporting diagnosis and treatment planning
  • Perform ophthalmic procedures consistent with training, licensure, and scope of practice
  • Assist physicians with in-office and surgical procedures as needed
  • Provide patient education, counseling, and follow-up care
  • Document patient care accurately and promptly in the electronic medical record
  • Review test results and coordinate appropriate follow-up under physician supervision
  • Collaborate with physicians, technicians, and support staff to ensure continuity and quality of care
  • Follow established clinical protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Support efficient patient flow and a positive patient experience
  • Participate in training and professional development
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements
Required Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • Current Physician Assistant certification
  • Active California Physician Assistant license or eligibility to obtain licensure
  • Current BLS certification or ability to obtain certification
  • Strong clinical judgment and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative clinical environment
  • Ability to perform procedures within the approved scope of practice
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous ophthalmology or specialty-care experience
  • Experience assisting with clinical or surgical procedures
  • Experience using electronic medical record systems
