Duties
The James J. Peters VA Medical Center is recruiting for Full-Time Physician (Anesthesiology). The incumbent will be Board-Eligible or Board-Certified Physician (Anesthesiology) and responsible for delivery of care to patients enrolled at the James J Peters VA Medical Center or one of its community-based outpatient clinics. The Physician (Anesthesiology) will provide team-based care for a patient panel, supported by nursing and clerical staff as well extended team members, which include pharmacists, social workers, psychologists, and nutritionists.
The James J. Peters VA Medical Center is an academic tertiary care center with inpatient medicine, surgery, and intensive care units as well as a nursing home and spinal cord unit. We are affiliated with the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and Vagelos School of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University.
The Anesthesia service at the Bronx VA Medical Center provides anesthesia support for up to 6 operating rooms, 2 Endoscopy suites, IR, and CT. Procedural services include: General Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, Hepatobiliary Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, Orthopedics, ENT, Plastic Surgery, Ophthalmology, Podiatry, Urology, GYN surgery, Vascular Surgery, Interventional Radiology and CT procedures, Gastroenterology endoscopy procedures, and Kidney Transplant. If selected, you will follow established guidelines, ethics, policies and protocols of the Department of Anesthesiology, Veterans Health Administration, and the profession. The scope of practice of the position includes the following duties, broadly defined.
The Physician (Anesthesiology) is responsible for direct provision of peri-operative anesthetic care and ensuring the facility and program are meeting and exceeding compliance standards. The Physician should also be proficient and privileged in all aspects of Anesthesiology. The Anesthesiologist will provide perioperative care including pre-operative assessment and perioperative medication orders, intraoperative anesthetic administration and monitoring, administration and monitoring of post-anesthesia care in compliance with national accreditation standards, supervision of nurse practitioners for Preoperative Assessment work-ups, supervision of anesthesia residents, supervision and training of intubations for the hospital respiratory staff, supervision and training of intubations for OMFS residents.
The Physician (Anesthesiology) will provide expert consultation and guidance to CRNA, nursing, and other medical staff in the administration of the anesthesia programs. The incumbent will perform the administrative components of patient care management such as completion of proper documentation for anesthetic care administration, participating in the development and implementation of program planning, objectives, policies, and standards essential to delivery of quality anesthetic care, maintenance of Medical Center/ VA education and training requirements ongoing, Anesthesiologists take call for nights and weekends as defined by the Department of Anesthesiology. In this role, the incumbent will also provide feedback and patient education to the patients and their families and will demonstrate excellence in all facets of patient care and meets or exceeds compliance standards.

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
