Job description

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, including award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years), is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing requirements may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who initially qualified under previous standards are deemed to meet the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements
  1. United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, in accordance with VA Policy.
  2. Degree: Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved medical school.
  3. Licensure: Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.
  4. Residency Training: Completion of an accredited residency program approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification. Residency programs include those approved by ACGME, AOA, or other recognized programs with verified practice experience.
  5. Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA programs are eligible for appointment as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee basis.
  6. English Proficiency: Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  7. Physical Requirements: Must pass a pre-employment physical and be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
Duties
  • The Minneapolis VA Health Care System seeks a Board Certified/Board Eligible Anesthesiologist to join its expanding clinical practice with academic affiliation with the University of Minnesota.
  • The role involves providing surgical care for a wide range of procedures, including cardiac, thoracic, general, ENT, urologic, orthopedic, plastic, reconstructive, and gynecologic surgeries.
  • The successful candidate should have recent experience in cardiac anesthesia, teaching residents, and be eligible for an academic appointment.
  • Responsibilities include clinical and on-call coverage, supervising anesthesia residents, nurse anesthetists, and students, as well as teaching.
