Description
CHRISTUS Highland Medical Center is seeking a Physician Advisor. The Physician Advisor serves as a liaison between the medical staff, case management, utilization review, coding, and hospital administration. They provide expert guidance on clinical documentation, compliance, utilization management, and quality initiatives to improve patient outcomes and ensure appropriate use of resources.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with case management and utilization review teams to support appropriate patient status determinations (e.g., inpatient vs. observation).
- Review medical records and provide feedback to physicians on documentation best practices to support medical necessity and accurate coding.
- Educate providers on regulatory requirements (e.g., CMS guidelines, Joint Commission standards, DRG optimization).
- Assist with concurrent and retrospective reviews for denials management and appeals.
- Partner with quality teams to align clinical practices with evidence-based guidelines and reduce readmissions, length of stay, and variation in care.
- Serve as a clinical resource for hospital committees focused on quality, compliance, and performance improvement.
- Facilitate communication between hospital administration and medical staff regarding policies, procedures, and strategic initiatives (note: this position is not remote).
Qualifications:
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree.
- Board certification in a medical specialty.
- Active and unrestricted medical license for Louisiana.
- Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience; prior utilization review or physician advisor experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of healthcare regulations, including Medicare/Medicaid guidelines and commercial payer requirements.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in healthcare quality (e.g., CHCQM-PHYADV, ACM, or similar).
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR), utilization management software, and clinical documentation improvement (CDI) tools.
