Join the Physician Advisor position at CHRISTUS Highland Medical Center. The role involves serving as a liaison among the medical staff, case management, utilization review, coding, and hospital administration. The physician advisor provides guidance on clinical documentation, compliance, utilization management, and quality initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and resource utilization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support appropriate patient status determinations through collaboration with case management and utilization review teams.
  • Review medical records and give feedback on documentation practices to support medical necessity and accurate coding.
  • Educate providers on regulatory requirements such as CMS guidelines, Joint Commission standards, and DRG optimization.
  • Assist with reviews for denials management and appeals.
  • Work with quality teams to align clinical practices with evidence-based guidelines, aiming to reduce readmissions, length of stay, and care variation.
  • Serve as a resource for hospital committees focused on quality, compliance, and performance improvement.
  • Facilitate communication between hospital administration and medical staff regarding policies and strategic initiatives (note: this position is not remote).
Qualifications
  • MD or DO degree.
  • Board certification in a medical specialty.
  • Active, unrestricted medical license for Louisiana.
  • Minimum 5 years of clinical experience; prior utilization review or physician advisor experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare regulations including Medicare/Medicaid and commercial payer requirements.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification in healthcare quality (e.g., CHCQM-PHYADV, ACM).
  • Experience with EHR, utilization management software, and CDI tools.
