The Physical Therapist Assistant evaluates and treats patients with diverse rehabilitative needs, including orthopedic, neurological, developmental, vestibular, and functional conditions caused by injury, illness, or age-related changes.
They implement plans of care provided by physical therapists, adjusting treatments based on patient response and evidence, and document all interventions accurately.
Key responsibilities include educating patients, families, caregivers, students, and healthcare providers using effective teaching methods, providing treatments such as therapeutic exercises, gait and balance training, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, and aquatic therapy.
They coordinate with physical therapists and communicate progress with referring providers.
Qualifications include an Associate’s Degree in Physical Therapy Assistance, licensure as a Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant in Illinois, and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Ideal candidates are board eligible and committed to ongoing education, particularly in stroke care.
