Job summary

The Illinois Association of School Administrators is seeking a Certified Physical Therapist Assistant to support students within educational settings. Under the supervision of a licensed Illinois Physical Therapist, the PTA will implement therapeutic interventions aimed at improving student access, participation, and progress in school activities.

  • Assist with positioning, transfers, mobility routines, and adaptive equipment use.
  • Collaborate with teachers, nurses, OTs, and other staff to reinforce PT strategies in daily routines.
  • Maintain confidentiality and proper handling of student information.
  • Provide staff with guidance on positioning, mobility, and exercise routines.
  • Communicate with supervising PT regarding student progress and equipment needs.
  • Maintain PT equipment inventory and report needs.

Job description

SUMMARY
The district is seeking a Certified Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) to support students within educational
settings. Under the direction and supervision of a licensed Illinois Physical Therapist, the PTA implements
therapeutic interventions that promote students’ access, participation, and progress in the school environment. The PTA collaborates with staff and families to carry out the Physical Therapy (PT) plan of care aligned witheach student’s IEP.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Licensure

  • Graduation from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant Associate Degree Program.
  • Current Illinois PTA license (IDFPR).

PROFESSIONAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implement therapeutic activities addressing gross motor, sensory-motor, balance, strength, endurance, mobility, positioning, and functional school participation as outlined in the PT plan/IEP.
  • Assist with therapeutic positioning, transfers, mobility routines, and use of adaptive equipment.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, paraprofessionals, nurses, occupational therapists, and other school staff to reinforce therapeutic strategies within daily routines.
  • Demonstrate ability to maintain highest standards of confidentiality.
  • Provide guidance to staff on positioning, mobility, safe handling, adaptive equipment use, and exercise routines.
  • Communicate regularly with the supervising Physical Therapist regarding student progress and equipment needs.
  • Collect data to support the supervising Physical Therapist’s evaluation of student progress toward IEP goals.
  • Complete required documentation (daily notes, progress logs, supervision logs, Medicaid billing) within established timelines.
  • Assist with identifying, maintaining, and monitoring adaptive equipment, orthotics, prosthetics, and positioning devices.
  • Maintain inventory of PT equipment and supplies and report needs to the supervising PT.
  • Participate in PT-related professional development as assigned.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to use personal vehicle during work hours.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
