Job summary

Calvert Health System seeks a compassionate Physical Therapy Assistant to join the outpatient rehabilitation team at CALVERTHEALTH MEDICAL CENTER. You will collaborate with licensed Physical Therapists to help patients improve mobility and independence in a patient-centered setting.

The PTA delivers direct patient care under supervision, documents progress, and supports scheduling and interdisciplinary rounds.

Qualifications

  • Must possess a degree from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant Program.
  • Current Maryland PTA license required.
  • CPR certification required within 30 days of hire.
  • Experience in rehabilitation settings preferred, but evaluated on education and training.
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 100 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Provide physical therapy treatments under the direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist.
  • Assist patients in improving mobility, strength, balance, endurance, functional abilities, and independence.
  • Observe and report patient responses, progress, or concerns to the supervising PT and care team.

JOB DESCRIPTION DETAILS

We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) to join ouroutpatientrehabilitation team. In this role, you will work collaboratively with Physical Therapists and the interdisciplinary care team to provide high-quality, patient-centered rehabilitation services designed to help patients improve mobility, function, independence, and overall quality of life.

The Physical Therapist Assistant provides direct patient care intheoutpatient settings under the direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist. The PTA efficiently delivers comprehensive physical therapy services to a diverse patient population while supporting individualized treatment plans and organizational standards of care.

The PTA is responsible for accurately documenting patient treatment and progress, communicating changes in patient status, assisting with scheduling as needed, and participating in interdisciplinary rounds, team conferences, committee meetings, and other collaborative activities as assigned.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide physical therapy treatments and interventions in accordance with the established plan of care and under the direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist.
  • Assist patients in improving mobility, strength, balance, endurance, functional abilities, and independence.
  • Observe and monitor patient response to treatment and promptly communicate changes in condition, progress, or concerns to the supervising Physical Therapist and appropriate members of the care team.
  • Deliver safe, effective, and compassionate care while promoting a positive patient experience.
  • Complete accurate, timely, and thorough clinical documentation in accordance with hospital, departmental, regulatory, and professional standards.
  • Educate patients and caregivers regarding treatment activities, mobility techniques, safety, and recommendations within the PTA's scope of practice.
  • Collaborate effectively with Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physicians, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Participatein departmental or hospital activities as assigned.
  • Assist with departmental scheduling, patient flow, equipment management, and other operational needs as appropriate.
  • Maintain a safe treatment environment and follow established infection prevention, patient safety, and hospital policies.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, effective communication, and respect in all interactions with patients, families, visitors, and coworkers.
Education:

Must possess a degree from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant Program.

Registration/Certification/Licensure:

Current and unrestricted license from the Maryland Board of Physical Therapy Examiners required.

CPR certification required within 30 days of hire.

Experience:

Must demonstrate competence to provide physical rehabilitation services by reason of education, training and experience.

Previous rehabilitation, acute care, sub-acute, or outpatient experience is preferred, but qualifications may be considered based on education, clinical training, and demonstrated competency.

Other Requirements:

Maintains unit-specific and hospital competencies, mandatory learning, and any clinical certifications required in accordance with the Staff Education and Training policy GA-057 and/or any other department requirements.

Required to lift and/or move more than 100 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with modified lifting device.

Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions that drive an appropriate plan of care.
