The Hospital‑Based Physical Therapy Assistant assists the Physical Therapist in providing skilled physical therapy services to patients in inpatient, swing bed, and outpatient hospital settings. The PTA delivers treatments as outlined in the established plan of care to improve functional mobility, strength, endurance, balance, and safety while ensuring compliance with physician orders, state practice acts, CMS requirements, and hospital policies.

Hourly Rate of $30.93 - $44.85, depending on experience level

Role-Specific:
General Responsibilities
  • Implements physical therapy treatment plans established by the supervising Physical Therapist.
  • Provides skilled physical therapy interventions to inpatients and outpatients following physician orders and approved plans of care.
  • Assist patients with therapeutic exercises, functional mobility training, transfer training, gait training, and balance activities.
  • Measures and monitors patient response to treatment, including pain, vital signs, functional performance, and tolerance to activity.
  • Recognizes and reports significant changes in patient condition to the supervising Physical Therapist promptly.
  • Ensures patient safety by following hospital fall prevention, infection control, and safety protocols.
  • Accurately documents treatments, patient responses, progress toward goals, and functional outcomes in the electronic medical record.
  • Ensures documentation is timely, complete, and compliant with CMS, payer, and hospital documentation standards.
  • Supports medical necessity and skilled intervention through clear and objective treatment documentation.
  • Works under the supervision and direction of the Physical Therapist in accordance with state practice acts and hospital policy.
  • Communicate effectively with Physical Therapists, physicians, nursing, and other healthcare team members.
  • Participates in discharge planning by providing input related to functional status, equipment needs, and safety considerations.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, staff meetings, and continuing education activities.
Inpatient / Acute Care Services
  • Assist hospitalized patients with bed mobility, transfers, ambulation, and functional mobility using appropriate assistive devices.
  • Support early mobility and functional independence to reduce length of stay and prevent complications.
  • Communicate patient progress and barriers to mobility with the interdisciplinary care team.
Outpatient Physical Therapy Services
  • Provide treatment for patients with orthopedic, neurological, post‑surgical, and chronic conditions in a hospital‑based outpatient setting.
  • Reinforce home exercise programs, body mechanics, and injury prevention strategies.
  • Assist in tracking patient progress toward functional goals and established outcomes.
Education:
  • Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program
Certifications/Licenses:
  • Current Physical Therapist Assistant license in Wyoming
Job Knowledge and Skills:
  • Strong clinical reasoning skills across inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Ability to manage a diverse caseload and prioritize effectively
  • Knowledge of orthopedic, neurological, and post‑surgical rehabilitation principles
  • Excellent communication and patient education skills
  • Proficiency in electronic medical record systems
  • Experience in hospital‑based and/or outpatient physical therapy preferred
