Job summary

Bayhealth Medical Center in Dover, DE is hiring a Physical Therapist Assistant for full‑time, days shifts at the Kent Campus Hospital. General Summary

The Physical Therapist Assistant is a Delaware licensed professional who is responsible and accountable for performing physical therapy services for inpatients and outpatients under the overall supervision of a Physical Therapist. These services include planning, implementing, delivering and assessing the effectiveness of the treatment rendered. Regular direct/ongoing communication with the assigned or Supervisor PT regarding patients on caseload is expected. The Physical Therapist Assistant must be able to provide services across the lifespan and work in both outpatient and inpatient settings as appropriate to the employee’s skill set and department requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Provision of Care/Services a. Follows the plan of care as documented by the Physical Therapist b. Provides comprehensive treatment to patients across the lifespan as appropriate c. Notifies the primary therapist when modifications to the plan of care are needed based on progression/regression of the patient or change in medical status d. Incorporates a variety of treatment techniques based upon the needs of the patient e. Appropriately prioritizes daily activities with consideration of individual and departmental needs f. Focuses on achieving the greatest well‑being and the highest potential for the patient/client g. Collaborates with nursing and allied health staff to assure optimal patient care h. Demonstrates competence on departmental skills checklists
  • Documentation/Data Management a. Documentation is timely, accurate, and completed by end of work shift daily, manual and electronic b. Documentation reflects performance of procedures and treatments in the plan of care and physician prescription c. Assures documentation in the patient record is sufficient for other staff to be able to carry out an appropriate treatment d. Compliance with legal, departmental, organizational, accrediting agency policies including protocols and multidisciplinary tools e. Bills patients appropriately. Billing is turned in on the same day as treatment rendered f. Accurate and timely data collection per department requirements
  • Communication/Interpersonal a. Maintains ongoing and effective collaboration between front office and other therapy staff b. Facilitates internal and external communication by participating in collaborative relationships with other health practitioners and the public at large c. Provides Supervisor/Manager with ongoing feedback of patient and/or departmental concerns
  • Fiscal Responsibilities a. Behaviors demonstrate a positive commitment to departmental fiscal accountabilities and goals b. Complies with established departmental productivity standards
  • Department Participation a. Takes responsibility for content presented at all staff meetings and applies information to daily activities as directed b. Regularly attends, actively participates and contributes to departmental in‑services/meetings c. Participates in appropriate educational programs offered by the organization d. May attend continuing education courses that benefit the organizational objectives as directed e. May serve on departmental/organizational committee as approved by Manager
  • Student and Volunteer Oversight a. Appropriately utilizes, communicates with and monitors the activities of Physical Therapist Assistant students and volunteers as directed by the leadership team and within the licensure regulations in the State of Delaware b. Completes, in a timely fashion, all necessary paperwork
  • Performance Improvement a. Accurately identifies, understands, and participates in Performance Improvement activities within the department, as directed by Supervisor/Manager b. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of current organizational Performance Improvement initiatives c. Communicates with the Supervisor/Manager to utilize current Performance Improvement data to improve clinical outcomes and efforts to achieve “best practice” standards of care
  • All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.
