Job summary

Bayhealth Medical Center in Milford, Delaware, is seeking a Nursing Assistant to deliver clinical nursing services under supervision on 6B at the Sussex Campus. Schedule is Full Time, 72 Hours Biweekly, with 12-Hour Day Shifts. Location: Bayhealth Sussex Campus, Milford, DE.

Salary range: 16.98–25.48 hourly. The Nursing Assistant provides care to infant through geriatric patients, under a licensed nurse's guidance.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.

Responsibilities

• Follows nursing assistant plan of care established by the Registered Nurse within a specified timeframe; includes mouth care, bathing, AM/PM care, ambulation, transfers, vital signs, input/output, and documentation.
• Performs duties with the age-appropriate care for patients.
• Maintains a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families.
• Communicates relevant patient information to a nurse promptly.
• Answers intercom or call lights timely and courteously.
• Performs patient care per guidelines for exams and tests.
• Performs safety and sitter duties as assigned.
• Assists other nursing team and departments as requested.

Education

CNA

Basic Life Support

Active CNA certification in DE or other state

1 year direct patient care experience

General Summary

6B is a 26 bed Acuity Adaptable floor at our Bayhealth Sussex Campus in Milford, Delaware. Patients on 6B enjoy private rooms, is well organized, clean, well equipped and delivers exceptional patient care. They have great teamwork, participate in the Nurse Residency Program, Shared Governance and sees a range of acuity from Med Surg to Intermediate Care including Cardiac & telemetry patients.

The Nursing Assistant position involves delivering clinical nursing services to patients. The Nursing Assistant functions under the supervision of a licensed nurse or therapist, providing care that does not require the judgment and skills of a licensed professional. After competency verification, the nursing assistant may deliver patient care services to the infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations. The care may include, but is not limited to, the following: bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, ambulating, transferring, feeding, observing, and reporting the general well-being of the person(s) to whom they are providing care. Coordinates clerical duties of a diverse and confidential nature to maintain the efficiency of patient care areas.

Department team members are authorized to have limited access to secured medication rooms to perform duties and responsibilities as defined in this job description. Any staff member requiring limited access to secured medication rooms must have a fully completed and signed Medication Security Agreement for Non-Licensed Personnel form on file and available upon request.

Responsibilities

• Follows nursing assistant plan of care established by the Registered Nurse within a specified timeframe; including, but not limited to, mouth care, bathing, AM and PM care, assistance with ambulation, transfers to chair and/or bed, taking and documenting vital signs, and recording accurate intake and output. Documents all patient care delivered according to established policies and procedures.
• Performs duties with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served on the assigned units.
• Maintains a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families in accordance with hospital standards.
• Communicate relevant patient information to a professional nurse within an appropriate time based on the level of urgency. Report problems immediately to a professional nurse.
• Answer intercom or call lights in a timely, courteous manner, with appropriate communication to the patient and/or professional nurse.
• Performs patient care based on established guidelines for diagnostic and therapeutic exams; i.e., NPO for labs or x-rays, OR, diet changes related to tests, enema-related tests.
• Perform safety and suicide precaution sitter duties as assigned.
• Assists other members of the nursing team and/or ancillary departments as requested.
• All other duties as assigned, within the scope and range of job responsibilities.

Required Education, Credential(s) and Experience

• Education: High School Diploma or GED Certificate Program ;

Must meet one or more of the following criteria:

• Completion of a Nursing Assistant training course, Medical Assistant training course or Patient Care Technician training course.
• Completion of a Clinical lab simulation course which included training on vital signs, ADLs etc. Course must be verifiable via official transcript.
• Active or recent CNA certification in DE or another state.
• 1 year or more of verifiable work experience in a direct patient care role as a Nursing Asst, Medical Asst, PCT, or Home Health Aide.
• Credential(s): Basic Life Support
• Experience: Required: No experience necessary if completed a Nursing Assistant training course, Medical Assistant training course Patient Care Technician training course, or a Clinical lab simulation course which included training on vital signs, ADLs etc. (Course must be verifiable via official transcript.) ~~ No experience necessary if an active or recent CNA certification in DE or another state. ~ If course or certification is not held, one (1) year verifiable work experience in a direct patient care role as a Nursing Asst, Medical Asst, PCT, or Home Health Aide is required.
