Job summary

Cuidado Casero Home Health of New Mexico in Anthony, NM 88021 is seeking a Part-Time Physical Therapy Assistant to work under a Licensed Physical Therapist in a home health setting. The TA will assist with planned treatments, document progress, and educate patients and families.

Candidates should be licensed as a PTA in New Mexico and ideally have 1–2 years of health care experience, with strong communication, organizational, and multitasking skills for a fast-paced clinical environment.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an approved school for Physical Therapy Assistant with a minimum of two years of study.
• Currently licensed in the State as a Physical Therapist Assistant.
• Prefer 1–2 years of health care experience.

He/she works under the direction, instruction and supervision of the Registered Physical Therapist and/or appropriate supervisor. The Physical Therapy Assistant needs empathetic communication skills, be flexible, and have respect for the patient’s privacy and property. A positive attitude is a must, dependable techniques in personal hygiene, good observation skills, reliability, and an understanding of the team concept.

Responsibilities

• Provision of client care services which have been planned and delegated by the physical therapist.
• Participating in preparation of clinical and progress notes.
• Participating in educating the client and family.
• Participating in in-service programs.
• The Physical Therapy Assistant has all notes reviewed and cosigned by a Registered Physical Therapist.
• Evaluation by a qualified Physical Therapist prior to initiation of treatment, prior to changes in the physician’s plan of care, and immediately prior to discontinuing treatment and discharge.
• Complies with all Agency regulations, policies and job descriptions.
• Identifies possible ineffective drug therapy or adverse reactions, significant side effects, drug allergies, and contra‑indicated medication and reports to supervisor.
• Advises and consults with family on client’s potential to meet goals.
• Observes, records activities and findings in the clinical record and reports to the physician the client’s reaction to treatment and any changes in the client’s condition.
• Instructs other health team personnel—including the appropriate home health aide and family members—in certain phases of physical therapy.
• Participates with staff, client, and physician in discharge activities and assists the Physical Therapist in completing the Physical Therapy discharge summary within the Agency policies.
• Communicates effectively with all those providing care.
• Under the supervision of the Physical Therapist, assists in evaluation and development of the rehabilitative plan of care and in periodic re‑evaluation as indicated.
• Performs routine strengthening and therapeutic exercises under the direction and supervision of the Registered Physical Therapist.
• Assists in teaching exercise programs to patient and family.
• Consults with the therapist regarding the outcome of home visits and reports physical findings in written form.
• Assists patient in use of self‑help devices.
• Attends rehabilitation department staff meetings, agency staff meetings, in‑services, and case conferences as required.
• Participates in QAPI activities as required.
• Performs any and all other duties assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

Driving & Other Requirements

• Must have and maintain a valid state driver license, a registered and reliable vehicle that meets state law standards, and meets the insurance standards of the company.
• Position requires extensive driving in a geographic area.
• Must be able to access clients’ homes, which will not be routinely wheelchair accessible.
