Job summary

Kern River Transitional Care Center is seeking a dependable Physical Therapy Technician to join our rehabilitation team on a PRN basis. Physical Therapist Tech PRN (Healthcare)
Physical Therapy Technician - PRN

Kern River Transitional Care Center is seeking a dependable and motivated Physical Therapy Technician to join our rehabilitation team on a PRN basis. This non-clinical support position assists the therapy department with resident transportation, treatment-area preparation, equipment management, scheduling support, and administrative tasks.

Compensation

Pay Range: $19.00-$20.00 per hour, based on experience.

General Purpose

The Physical Therapy Technician performs a variety of non-clinical support duties to improve the efficiency of rehabilitation services. Responsibilities include preparing treatment areas, transporting residents, maintaining equipment and supplies, assisting therapy staff, and monitoring the timely completion and filing of rehabilitation documentation as directed by the supervisor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with setting up treatment areas and equipment for physical, occupational, and speech therapy services.
  • Follow resident-specific precautions and instructions provided by licensed therapists.
  • Transport, transfer, position, and prepare residents for scheduled therapy sessions as directed.
  • Clean, sanitize, organize, and maintain therapy equipment and treatment areas.
  • Follow infection control, safety, and equipment maintenance procedures.
  • Communicate regularly with the supervisor, therapists, nursing staff, and other healthcare personnel.
  • Coordinate with therapists to support resident scheduling needs.
  • Direct all clinical questions to the appropriate supervising therapist.
  • Immediately report unusual occurrences, resident concerns, or changes in condition to the therapist or supervisor.
  • Accurately complete and submit department logs, tracking forms, and other assigned documentation.
  • Assist with monitoring the timely completion and filing of rehabilitation documentation.
  • Support departmental denials-management activities to help ensure claims and appeals are processed in accordance with company procedures.
  • Monitor inventory and order office, treatment, and clinical supplies as directed.
  • Use sound judgment and maintain appropriate concern for the safety of residents, staff, visitors, and self.
  • Attend rehabilitation team meetings, training sessions, and educational programs as assigned.
  • Assist with in-services, exercise programs, wellness activities, and community-related programs.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of resident, employee, and company information.
  • Follow facility and company dress-code requirements.
  • Establish positive and professional relationships with residents, families, coworkers, and healthcare professionals.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor or Director of Rehabilitation.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience in rehabilitation, healthcare, skilled nursing, fitness, or resident services preferred.
  • Experience transporting or assisting residents is a plus.
  • Basic computer and administrative skills preferred.

  • Ability to read and understand technical procedures, safety instructions, and facility policies.
  • Ability to follow written, verbal, diagrammed, and scheduled instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, managers, coworkers, therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Basic mathematical skills, including fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work effectively in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Ability to recognize when assistance is needed and promptly notify the appropriate therapist or supervisor.
Physical Demands
  • Frequently stand and walk and occasionally sit.
  • Occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Reach, push, pull, lift, carry, and manipulate equipment.
  • Occasionally exert more than 100 pounds of force, frequently exert more than 50 pounds, and regularly exert more than 20 pounds when assisting residents or moving equipment.
  • Assist, support, transfer, and transport residents using approved safe‑handling practices.
  • Communicate effectively through speaking and hearing.
  • Perceive and respond to visual, auditory, tactile, and environmental cues.
