Job Summary

The Physical Therapist is responsible for delivering physical therapy care to assigned patients and documenting care in the hospital medical record. The therapist also acts as a consultant to patient clinics, provides instruction to PT support staff, students, personnel from other disciplines within VCUHS, and patient/family members. Therapists may rotate through various clinical service areas.

Licensure and Certification Requirements

• For hire: Licensed (or licensure eligible) by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Physical Therapist.
• For continued employment: Current license by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Physical Therapist. Current CPR certification if required by clinic or practice area.

Experience and Education

• Required: Graduate of an accredited School of Physical Therapy; 0 to 2 years of work experience as a Physical Therapist.
• Preferred: Previous affiliation or work experience at a similar facility; Master's or Doctoral Degree from an accredited School of Physical Therapy.

Independent Actions

• Patient evaluation and implementation of care plans, discharge planning.
• Ordering equipment.
• Representing the department at rounds and discharge conferences.
• Scheduling and billing patients.

Supervisory Responsibilities

May supervise Physical Therapist Assistants, Rehab Technicians, students, and volunteers. Works as part of a self-directed team, applying knowledge to solve daily clinical problems. Unresolved issues are escalated to the department manager.

Additional Requirements

Work hours will be set with your manager, including weekends and holidays, based on staffing needs. Schedules are subject to change.

Physical and Sensory Requirements

• Physical: Lifting 50-100 lbs, frequent bending, walking, climbing, reaching, repetitive motions.
• Mental/Sensory: Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, clear speech, legible writing, reading, logical thinking.

Fast-paced, noisy environment requiring adaptability, handling multiple priorities, and frequent customer interactions.
