Nexus Children’s Hospital – Houston provides structured inpatient care for children ages 4 to 18 with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other intellectual or developmental disabilities (IDD). Located in Houston’s Westchase District, our bright, home-like environment offers a safe and supportive setting where children can grow, stabilize, and build the skills needed for success. Position Summary

The Physical Therapist (PT) provides therapeutic services to children and adolescents with neurodevelopmental, behavioral, and medically complex conditions. The PT evaluates motor function, develops individualized treatment plans, and works closely with the interdisciplinary team to improve mobility, strength, balance, and overall functional independence. This role requires strong clinical judgment, flexibility, and the ability to work with patients who may have developmental, behavioral, or emotional regulation challenges.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate patients and develop individualized physical therapy treatment plans
  • Provide therapeutic interventions to improve strength, mobility, balance, and coordination
  • Work with patients who have developmental disabilities, neurological conditions, or behavioral challenges
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and behavioral teams
  • Educate patients and caregivers on exercises and functional mobility strategies
  • Document evaluations, treatments, and progress in the electronic medical record
  • Use adaptive equipment and therapeutic techniques to support functional independence
  • Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and care planning
  • Maintain compliance with all regulatory, safety, and documentation standards
  • Promote a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment for all patients
Qualifications
  • Current Texas Physical Therapist license required
  • BLS certification required
  • De‑escalation training required within 30 days of hire
  • Doctorate or Master’s degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program required
  • Experience with pediatric, neurologic, or developmental populations preferred
  • Experience in inpatient, rehabilitation, or behavioral health settings preferred
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary clinical team
  • Compassionate, patient‑centered approach to care
  • Comfort working in a structured behavioral environment
