Schedule: PRN | 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Nexus Children’s Hospital – Houston provides structured inpatient care for children ages 4 to 18 with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other intellectual or developmental disabilities (IDD). Located in Houston’s Westchase District, our bright, home-like environment offers a safe and supportive setting where children can grow, stabilize, and build the skills needed for success. Our program focuses on behavioral stability, communication development, and functional independence. Our interdisciplinary team works closely with patients and families to improve daily living skills, sensory regulation, and overall independence while supporting emotional and behavioral growth — because at Nexus, we’re mending minds.

Position Summary

The Occupational Therapist (OT) provides therapeutic services to children and adolescents with neurodevelopmental, behavioral, and medically complex conditions. The OT evaluates functional abilities, develops individualized treatment plans, and works closely with the interdisciplinary team to improve daily living skills, sensory processing, coordination, and independence. This role requires strong clinical reasoning, flexibility, and the ability to work with patients who may have developmental, behavioral, or emotional regulation challenges.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate patients and develop individualized occupational therapy treatment plans
  • Provide therapeutic interventions to improve daily living skills, sensory processing, and functional independence
  • Work with patients who have developmental disabilities, neurological conditions, or behavioral challenges
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists, and behavioral teams
  • Educate patients and caregivers on therapeutic techniques and home programs
  • Document evaluations, treatments, and progress in the electronic medical record
  • Use adaptive equipment and sensory-based interventions to support independence
  • Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and care planning
  • Maintain compliance with all regulatory, safety, and documentation standards
  • Promote a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment for all patients
Qualifications
  • Current Texas Occupational Therapist license required
  • BLS certification required
  • De‑escalation training required within 30 days of hire
  • Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program required
  • Experience with pediatric, neurologic, or developmental populations preferred
  • Experience in inpatient, rehabilitation, or behavioral health settings preferred
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary clinical team
  • Compassionate, patient‑centered approach to care
  • Comfort working in a structured behavioral environment
