Job summary

Reno Orthopedic Center (ROC) in Reno, NV offers a 13-month Physical Therapy Post-Graduate Training Program to develop advanced, evidence-based orthopedic skills through structured mentorship and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.

The program provides exposure to diverse surgical cases and patient populations, with didactic lectures, journal clubs, shadowing, online modules, and independent study to build clinical reasoning and practice readiness.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a CAPTE-accredited physical therapy program.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • Active Nevada Physical Therapy license from Nevada State Board (or eligible to obtain).

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and carry out individually designed programs of physical therapy to maintain, improve, or restore physical functioning.
  • Review physician's referral and patient's medical records and confer with patient and medical practitioners to plan, implement, and assess the intervention program.
  • Identify and document goals, anticipated progress, and plans for reevaluation.
  • Test, measure and record in EMR the patient's strength, motor development, functional capacity, and respiratory/circulatory status.
  • Analyze patient progress and modify interventions to achieve goals and refer to other practitioners as needed.
  • Educate patients about injury prevention and ergonomics, and how to use assistive devices.
  • Discharge patient with follow-up care or referrals as appropriate.

Reno Orthopedic Center's Physical Therapy Post-Graduate Training Program prepares clinicians for advanced, evidence-based practice through structured mentorship, direct collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams, and comprehensive exposure to a diverse patient population and surgical conditions. Curriculum Outline:

This will be a 13-month program where you will obtain 4 hours of clinical 1:1 mentoring per week as well as 32 non-mentored hours.

Didactic:
  • Monthly journal clubs
  • Monthly physician/surgery shadowing
  • 2 hours of online learning modules per week (self-paced)
  • Independent study of 3 hours per week
What would you do in this role?
  • Plan, prepare, and carry out individually designed programs of physical treatment to maintain, improve, or restore physical functioning, alleviate pain, or prevent physical dysfunction in patients;
  • Review physician's referral and patient's medical records and confer with patient and appropriate medical practitioners to plan, implement, and assess the intervention program;
  • Identify and document goals, anticipated progress, and plans for reevaluation;
  • Test, measure and record in patient's electronic medical record the patient's strength, motor development, functional capacity, sensory perception, and respiratory and/or circulatory efficiency;
  • Analyze patient progress and data, record in electronic medical record and modify interventions to achieve anticipated goals and expected outcomes, including referring to other practitioners as needed;
  • Educate patients about injury prevention, ergonomics, and ways to promote health;
  • Instruct patient in use of assistive devices such as wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, and canes as well as in treatment procedures to be continued at home;
  • Discharge patient from physical therapy when goals or projected outcomes have been attained; provide for appropriate follow-up care or referrals;
  • Participate in scheduled individual mentoring sessions with an experienced physical therapist;
  • Incorporate mentor feedback to improve clinical reasoning, examination techniques, and treatment interventions;
  • Attend and actively participate in didactic lectures, case discussions, journal clubs and skills laboratories;
  • Complete assigned readings, clinical projects, and competency assessments within program timelines.
Certifications/Education
  • Graduate of a CAPTE-accredited physical therapy program;
  • Basic Life Support certification;
  • Active Nevada Physical Therapy license from Nevada State Board (or eligible to obtain).
