POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides treatment to patients by evaluating their function and selecting appropriate treatments to improve or restore function. Participates in an interdisciplinary approach for in-service and community education and in the clinical education of affiliating students. May be responsible for cross-site coverage.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
- Graduate of an accredited program in Physical Therapy with a minimum of a B.S.
- Current Connecticut license in Physical Therapy.
COMPETENCIES:
- Strong English communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proficiency in Windows-based programs and basic keyboarding skills; experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and internet search capabilities is desirable.
- Access to reliable transportation for travel between multiple work sites; travel is required to perform essential duties.

- Evaluate patients based on departmental standards.
- Conduct and modify evaluations considering patient's symptoms, activity level, and medical status; establish individualized, measurable goals.
- Administer therapeutic exercises (strength, endurance, coordination, ROM).
- Use physical agents (modalities) and manual techniques to relieve pain and meet goals.
- Apply techniques to normalize motor activity and learning.
- Educate patients and families on home exercise programs and functional activities to maximize independence.
- Determine when a patient has achieved maximal benefit and recommend discharge if appropriate.
- Document all treatments and progress adhering to insurance guidelines and departmental policies.
- Coordinate with other departments and physicians regarding patient care through communication and documentation.
- Accurately submit charges daily.
- Follow the professional code of ethics established by the APTA and facility.
- Perform duties using proper body mechanics and safety measures.
- Supervise at least one affiliated student annually.
- Attend continuing education courses to improve treatment techniques.
- Participate in departmental or community in-service educational programs.
