POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides treatment to patients by evaluating their function and selecting appropriate treatments to improve or restore function. Participates in an interdisciplinary approach for in-service and community education and in the clinical education of affiliating students. May be responsible for cross-site coverage.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

• Graduate of an accredited program in Physical Therapy with a minimum of a B.S.
• Current Connecticut license in Physical Therapy.

COMPETENCIES:

• Strong English communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Proficiency in Windows-based programs and basic keyboarding skills; experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and internet search capabilities is desirable.
• Access to reliable transportation for travel between multiple work sites; travel is required to perform essential duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

Job-Specific Competencies

1. Evaluate patients based on departmental standards.
2. Conduct and modify evaluations considering patient's symptoms, activity level, and medical status; establish individualized, measurable goals.
3. Administer therapeutic exercises (strength, endurance, coordination, ROM).
4. Use physical agents (modalities) and manual techniques to relieve pain and meet goals.
5. Apply techniques to normalize motor activity and learning.
6. Educate patients and families on home exercise programs and functional activities to maximize independence.
7. Determine when a patient has achieved maximal benefit and recommend discharge if appropriate.
8. Document all treatments and progress adhering to insurance guidelines and departmental policies.
9. Coordinate with other departments and physicians regarding patient care through communication and documentation.
10. Accurately submit charges daily.
11. Follow the professional code of ethics established by the APTA and facility.
12. Perform duties using proper body mechanics and safety measures.
13. Supervise at least one affiliated student annually.
14. Attend continuing education courses to improve treatment techniques.
15. Participate in departmental or community in-service educational programs.
