Job Summary : Under limited technical supervision, utilizes skill, judgment, and knowledge of daily operations to supervise a small team of physical therapists, aides, and students. Efficiently evaluates and treats a broad spectrum of patients. Communicates effectively with staff, physicians, and other disciplines, and assists with program planning. Performs related duties as required.
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS : Note: The following duties are performed by employees in this classification; however, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual.
- Communication / Collaboration : Attends team meetings and conferences on patient care and discharge planning.
- Communication / Collaboration : Participates in and contributes to in-service educational training.
- Communication / Collaboration : Communicates with family, case managers, health insurers, etc., as appropriate.
- Communication / Collaboration : Confers with other PTs, aides, and department managers for problem solving and program planning.
- Communication / Collaboration : Consults with referring physicians and healthcare team about patient status.
- Documentation : Completes administrative forms for leave of absences, payroll, and statistics.
- Documentation : Writes clear, concise, and objective evaluations, progress notes, discharge notes, equipment orders, and insurance records. Records daily treatment attendance and charges accurately.
- Miscellaneous : Participates in data collection for Continuing Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement.
- Miscellaneous : Proficient in the use of SMS computer system.
- Miscellaneous : Implements safety measures—body mechanics, infection control, environmental hazard control; cleans treatment area after use.
- Patient care : Performs comprehensive PT evaluations using tests and measurements suitable for the patient's diagnosis, age, and disabilities.
- Patient care : Assesses the need for assistive devices for ambulation, exercise, joint protection, and pain management; orders necessary equipment.
- Patient care : Delegates appropriate PT tasks to PT aides, assistants, or interns.
- Patient care : Develops and executes treatment plans utilizing various procedures, group classes, modalities, and techniques to improve patient outcomes.
- Patient care : Educates patients, families, and caregivers on self-care, prevention, wellness, home exercise programs, equipment use, and safety.
- Team Leader Responsibilities : Manages non-patient care duties, such as task forces, staff training, and IOP, to support department care delivery.
- Team Leader Responsibilities : Schedules coverage to accommodate patient care during staff absences.
- Team Leader Responsibilities : Assigns new patients considering workloads, patient variety, and clinical expertise.
- Team Leader Responsibilities : Assists in developing skills of new PT interns as a preceptor.
- Team Leader Responsibilities : Ensures schedules are current, coordinates Saturday coverage, and monitors discharges.
- Team Leader Responsibilities : Orients and supervises new staff and students, reviews notes, and supervises patient care until competency is assured. Evaluates staff and students fairly using approved tools.
- Team Leader Responsibilities : Prepares drafts for weekly collaborative care meetings.
Qualifications :
- Education : Graduation from an accredited school of Physical Therapy.
- Minimum Experience : At least one year as a Physical Therapist I at Alameda Health System or two years in a related clinical setting (acute, rehab, SNF, outpatient).
- Required Licenses / Certifications : BLS - Basic Life Support Certification from AHA.
- Required Licenses / Certifications : Eligibility for or possession of a valid California Registered Physical Therapist license.
