Job description

Assist patients in reaching maximum physical performance while adjusting to disabilities. Restores patient physical functioning by interpreting physical therapy evaluations and test results; determining treatment goals and plans; administering manual exercises; instructing, encouraging, and assisting patients in performing physical activities and using supportive devices.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Completing billing sheets accurately by end of day.
  2. Evaluating effects of treatment at various stages and adjusting treatments to maximize benefit.
  3. Performing patient assessments and establishing care plans.
  4. Providing in-service education to nursing staff as needed.
  5. Documenting goals, progress, and plans for reevaluation.
  6. Discussing evaluations, goals, and treatments with patients and families.
  7. Participating in hospital-wide quality improvement processes.
  8. Supervising PTAs according to policies and regulations.

Education

Doctor of Physical Therapy required. Experience in lieu of degree is not accepted.

Licenses and Credentials

  • Physical Therapist license in Rhode Island.
  • Class D Passenger Vehicle Driver's License preferred.

Experience

1-2 years of internship or apprenticeship experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Electronic Medical Record systems.
  • Ability to teach others and solve problems effectively.
  • Knowledge of accreditation and certification standards.
