Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking a Physical Therapist I in Massachusetts to autonomously assess and treat patients referred to physical therapy, with discharge planning and collaboration with the care team. You will perform evaluations, develop plans, and participate in teaching and supervision within a capable multidisciplinary setting.

The role requires a PT degree, Massachusetts license within months, and BLS; new grads are welcome. A $10,000 sign-on bonus is eligible for this position.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy required.
• Doctoral degree in Physical Therapy preferred.
• Licensed Physical Therapist license required and Basic Life Support certificate required.
• 0–1 years related work experience required.
• Massachusetts license within 3–6 months of hire; supervision until licensure.
• Basic familiarity with computers; navigate web-based applications.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients to determine appropriateness of referral, review medical history, diagnose, prognosis and plan of care; collaborate with patient and medical team.
• Implement plan of care using therapeutic procedures, devices, teaching interventions and referrals to other providers to achieve patient goals.
• Review plan of care and patient response; re‑evaluate, modify as needed and restate discharge plan.
• Manage caseload and perform administrative duties including data collection, billing and committee participation.
• Provide teaching to patients and families; supervise PT assistants, rehab aides and students.

Job Summary

A Physical Therapist I (PT I) is autonomously responsible for examination, evaluation, diagnosis, prognosis, intervention and discharge planning for the physical therapy needs of patients who have potential for functional impairments, limitations and disabilities and are referred to physical therapy.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients to include: determining appropriateness of referral, medical history review, examination, identifying diagnosis, prognosis and plan of care. Discuss findings with patient and establish plan of care in collaboration with patient, family, supports and medical team as appropriate.
• Implement the plan of care using therapeutic procedures, equipment devices, teaching interventions, and ongoing collaboration and referral to additional health care providers to achieve patient goals and optimize function.
• Review the plan of care and the patient’s subjective or objective response to determine if goals/objectives are being attained. Re‑evaluate patient status, review the plan of care and make necessary modifications. Regularly update or restate discharge plan.
• Manage a defined caseload and perform all administrative responsibilities including but not limited to: assessing competence and supervision of technical and support staff, data collection and record keeping e.g. billing, face‑time sheets, QAI activities, participation on all hospital and departmental committees as requested, and attendance at departmental meetings and in‑services as required.
• Perform all teaching responsibilities including but not limited to: teaching patients and families, orienting support staff, preparing and presenting clinical in‑services, and providing interdepartmental in‑service educational lectures. Responsible for supervision of physical therapist assistants, allied health/professional coop students, rehab aides, and practice assistants.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy required. Doctoral degree in Physical Therapy preferred.
• Licensed Physical Therapist License required and Basic Life Support Certificate required.
• 0‑1 years related work experience required.
• New graduates, who have submitted a complete and accepted application for licensure, and out‑of‑state licensed physical therapists are expected to obtain a Massachusetts license within 3‑6 months of hire date. Will need to work under the direct clinical supervision of a licensed physical therapist and have all notes co‑signed until license has been obtained.
• Basic familiarity with computers. Ability to navigate at a basic level within web‑based applications.

Age Based Competencies

Employees in this job must be competent to provide patient care to the following age groups: Young adults (16‑30 years), Middle Age (30‑60 years), Elderly (60+ years).

Physical Nature of the Job

Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 20 pounds of force frequently. The job is physical in nature and the employee needs to stand and/or move around through the majority of their shift.

Pay Range

$40.50 – $55.60 per hour. The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
