Job Purpose or Mission
Provide Physical Therapy services to all patients at a level consistent with Baton Rouge Rehabilitation Hospital (BRRH) mission, vision, and values.
Job Functions
Essential Job Functions include, but are not limited to:
- Completes patient assessments and treatments.
Performance Standards
- Assesses patient, plans, and implements treatment, periodically re-evaluates patient's progress toward goals adjusting treatment plan appropriately.
- Utilizes standardized testing to document a patient's current levels and progress.
- Formulates plan based on evaluation results, patient input, discharge goals, interdisciplinary team goals, available technology and resources, age-related norms, and evidence-based practices.
- Provides patient and family with hands-on training, including transfers, mobility, functional independence needs, and exercises tailored to the patient's needs. A home exercise program is provided in hard copy.
- Delivers safe, effective, individualized treatment focused on functional tasks to improve endurance, strength, and range of motion, using therapeutic exercises as an adjunct.
- Adapts patient's environment inside and outside of therapy to facilitate progress.
- Provides age-specific direct and indirect patient care for school age (6-12), adolescent (12-18), adult (18-65), and elderly (65+).
- Utilizes technology effectively to maximize patient gains.
- Assesses and recommends equipment needed for training or discharge within appropriate time frames.
- Performs home evaluations, family training, and community reentry planning to maximize outcomes.
- Documents all care provided thoroughly and timely according to standards.
Additional Performance Standards
- Maintains ethical principles through accurate documentation and billing.
- Collaborates with team members for comprehensive interdisciplinary care.
- Participates actively in team meetings, conferences, and discharge planning.
- Assesses and implements discharge activities, including equipment and family training.
- Works with outside vendors and case managers for equipment procurement.
- Provides staff training on equipment, transfers, and mobility.
- Communicates effectively for authorizations to minimize care disruptions.
Professional Development and Compliance
- Engages in continuing education, stays current with treatment approaches and equipment.
- Participates in mandatory meetings and department management tasks.
- Supervises and mentors students, assistants, and staff as assigned.
- Completes projects and educational requirements independently and on time.
- Adheres to the Code of Conduct, HIPAA, and other regulatory standards.
Additional Responsibilities
- Participates in performance improvement activities and suggests process improvements.
- Ensures employee and patient safety practices are followed.
- Works on holidays, weekends, and during emergencies as required.
- Supervises students and uses KRONOS or similar apps for time management.
- Manages daily schedules considering patient needs and team coordination.
- Supports hospital teams, committees, projects, and marketing efforts.
- Performs other duties and special projects as needed.
Requirements
- Louisiana State licensure required.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary environment.
- Good organizational skills.
- CPR certification required.
