Job description

JOB PURPOSE OR MISSION: Provide Speech Therapy services to all patients at a level consistent with Baton Rouge Rehabilitation Hospital (BRRH) mission, vision, and values.

Responsibilities:

  1. Assesses and implements discharge planning activities including appropriate recommendations regarding discharge needs, family training, home evaluations, and equipment.
  2. Works with outside vendors and case managers to order patient specific equipment when funding has been verified.
  3. Provides staff training to promote individual patient progress regarding communication, cognition, and swallowing.
  4. Communicates information for authorizations in a timely manner to decrease disruption in care.
  5. Promotes education.
  6. Self-initiates continuing education and learning to stay abreast of current/new treatment approaches and/or equipment.
  7. Attends mandatory meetings and assists in other departments as needed.
  8. Participates in department management tasks; supervises, trains, mentors, and orients PRN, rehab techs, students, hospital staff, and volunteers.
  9. Completes assigned projects by due date.
  10. Self-initiates and completes all hospital related education/continuing education requirements by deadlines independently.
  11. Serves as a resource to other staff.
  12. Maintains compliance with the Code of Conduct, Conflict of Interest, Medicare, Joint Commission Guidelines, Speech Therapy Practice Act, ASHA code of ethics and policies and procedures.
  13. Maintains knowledge of and adherence to all applicable HIPAA regulations appropriate to Job Position.
  14. Actively participates in Performance Improvement activities and incorporates quality improvement standards in job performance.
  15. Offers suggestions for process improvement; recommends to the supervisor/manager equipment and/or supplies that may enhance our program.
  16. Actively participates in and demonstrates effective patient and employee safety practices in accordance with current policies.
  17. Reports on any safety concerns or broken or malfunctioning equipment to supervisor, facilities maintenance, or biomed in a timely manner.
  18. Maintains knowledge of and adherence to all applicable safety practices appropriate to Job Position.
  19. Works on holidays, weekends, and during emergency situations as required to meet patient needs and maintain compliance with IRF guidelines.
  20. Accepts and supervises students when assigned.
  21. Utilizes KRONOS or App to clock in and out consistently, request time-off, and independently monitors timecard, benefits, and notifications.
  22. Manages daily schedule considering patient needs, co-worker’s schedules, and productivity.
  23. Assists other departments as needed due to census, skill set, schedule, etc.
  24. Performs other duties and special projects as required.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Louisiana State licensure required.
  2. Oral and written communication skills required.
  3. Ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment.
  4. Good organizational skills.
  5. CPR Certified.
  6. ASHA CCC Preferred.
  7. Physical criteria:
  8. Lifting Medium: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally (33%), 10-25 pounds frequently (34-66%), and 0-10 pounds constantly (67-100%) with frequent lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  9. Must have ability to bend, and adequate physical strength to lift and assist with transfers and resistive activities.
