Responsibilities

The Home Health Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA, LPTA) performs treatments, provides exercise instruction, and educates patients to improve their well-being, following the established plan of care.

• Follow all state-specific laws governing physical therapy in home care, adhering to the treatment plan set by the supervising PT. Perform only procedures you are qualified and trained for, and recommend changes to the plan of care to the supervising PT.

• Instruct and assist patients with active and passive exercises, muscle re-education, gait, functional activities, activities of daily living (ADL), transfers, safety, and prosthetic training.

• Observe, document, and report patient responses and condition changes to the supervising PT, nurse, or physician. Coordinate care with other healthcare team members as appropriate.

• Educate patients, families, caregivers, and other healthcare team members within the scope of practice of the physical therapy assistant.

Education and Experience

License Requirements

• Current license, registration, or certification to practice physical therapy in the state.
• Current CPR certification.
• Valid driver's license, vehicle insurance, and reliable transportation (vehicle or public transit).
