Job summary

Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

Physical Therapist Assistants (PTA) work as part of a team to provide physical therapy services under the direction and supervision of the Physical Therapist. PTAs implement selected components of patient/client interventions, obtain data related to the interventions provided, and make modifications in selected interventions either to progress the patient/client as directed or to ensure safety and comfort.

PTAs assist the Physical Therapist in treating individuals of all ages, from newborns to the very oldest, who have medical problems or other health‑related conditions that limit their ability to move and perform functional activities in daily life.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Satisfactory verbal, reading, and writing skills to effectively and promptly communicate in English.
  • Proficient eyesight to read paper or computer‑generated medical records, instrument panels, and visual observations related to patient posture and functional abilities.
  • Hearing sufficient to communicate with patients and other team members and to monitor instrument signals and alarms.
  • Smell sufficient to assess patient status and maintain a safe practice environment.
  • Fine touch discrimination sufficient to palpate pathologic changes in soft tissue.
  • Fine and gross motor coordination sufficient to manipulate equipment controls and perform manual treatment/assessment techniques such as massage, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, stretching, neuromuscular re‑education, goniometry, and manual muscle testing.
  • Physical strength sufficient to transport, move, or lift patients requiring all levels of assistance and to perform prolonged periods of standing, walking, sitting, bending, crawling, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
  • Intellectual, emotional, and interpersonal skills sufficient to ensure patient safety, exercise independent judgment, and interact with patients, families, and other health care workers.
  • Document patient progress and status at discharge in the medical record per departmental policies.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Leads by example and exhibits solid leadership and teamwork while promoting the core philosophy of FYZICAL.
EXPECTED WORK HOURS
  • Estimated 40 hours per week during normal business hours (Monday through Friday, 8:00am‑6:00pm).
  • Overtime eligible and/or Saturday hours available with pre‑approval by the Clinic Director.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Communicate and converse, maintain a stationary position (standing, sitting), move/traverse, kneel, and bend.
  • Use fingers and hands, handle, feel, and reach for extended periods.
  • Occasionally climb or balance; stoop; kneel, crouch; taste or smell (as required).
  • Meeting vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust and focus.
  • Light to moderate lifting required.
  • Ability to endure the stress of traveling.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Moderate noise (business office with computers, phone, printers, light traffic).
  • Ability to work in a confined area.
  • Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period.
OTHER COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Oregon Sick Leave (OSL): one hour for every 30 hours worked; usable for qualifying medical or safety reasons.
  • Paid Leave Oregon (PLO): up to 12–14 weeks of paid family, medical, or safe leave for eligible employees.
  • Oregon Military Family Leave: up to 14 days of unpaid leave per deployment for employees averaging 20+ hours per week.
  • Professional Development: reimbursement for pre‑approved professional training to support licensure and skill advancement.
