Job summary

San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) is seeking a Physical Therapist to join the Related Services Division of the Special Education Services Department. You will assess and treat students with disabilities, coordinating care within IEPs and collaborating with families and school staff.

The role requires a California PT license, a master’s degree, and 2+ years of pediatric or school-based experience. Position is temporary exempt with a six-month maximum term and potential ESY involvement.

Essential Duties

As the Physical Therapist (PT) you will report to a Related Services Supervisor, be a part of the Related Services Division of the Special Education Services Department and a district leader in providing high quality assessment and services to students. You will help to lead Special Education Services transformational work to deliver on the promises outlined in our long-term, city-wide North Star, Vision, Values and Guardrails. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Physical Therapist (PT) serves as a resource to the school community with regard to identifying, analyzing, understanding, and addressing gross motor differences as they impact access to learning. PTs work with students with disabilities preparing them for further education, employment, and independent living in many cases.

• Utilizes a variety of standardized assessments, observations, and team input to evaluate student strengths and functional level to determine eligibility for services and to develop appropriate treatment goals.
• Plans, provides and monitors physical therapy treatment programs for students as outlined in Individual Education Programs (IEPs) or Section 504 Plan and assesses progress on goals
• Work with students who have sensory-motor impairments to develop their gross motor skills and gain independence with mobility to better access the school environment and engage with peers
• Provides consultation with school personnel regarding the implementation of the program, including accommodations, use of equipment/tools, and strategies to improve generalization of skills across settings
• Provides training for school personnel.
• Attends and participates in team conferences/IEP meetings designed to evaluate a child's educational needs.
• Maintains service records, including session notes and goal progress, and provides progress reports as required.
• Works in a school year assignment and a summer assignment (preK assessment and/or Extended School Year services)
• Other duties as assigned.

The strongest candidates will have:

• Graduation from an accredited program in Physical Therapy.
• Must have completed all fieldwork requirements and possess a master’s degree.

• 2+ years of experience as an physical therapist, preferably in a school system or other pediatric practice setting.
• Knowledge of a variety of assessment tools for different ages and areas of need
• Understanding of IDEA regulations and the IEP process.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective relationships with families, students, and colleagues
• Clear written and verbal communication
• Proficient computer skills, including Google Platform (email, Google Sheets, Google Docs, Google Slides)

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires registration as a Physical Therapist licensed by the Physical Therapy Board of California
