Qualifications

  • Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) or equivalent degree is required.
  • Active or eligible NM Physical Therapist license is required.
  • Knowledge of pediatric development and school-based PT practices is essential.
  • School-based or pediatric experience is preferred but not required.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and collaboration skills are needed.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct physical therapy evaluations and assess student needs.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized therapy plans.
  • Provide direct PT services to students, individually or in groups.
  • Support gross motor development, mobility, balance, and functional movement.
  • Recommend adaptive equipment and environmental modifications as needed.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and related service providers.
  • Participate in IEP meetings and educational planning discussions.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and billing records.
  • Provide training to school staff on PT strategies and safety.

We are currently seeking a Part-Time School-Based Physical Therapist (PT) to provide physical therapy services to students in an educational setting. This position offers flexibility while allowing you to work collaboratively with educators, families, and multidisciplinary teams to help students improve mobility, access their educational environment, and achieve greater independence.

Job Summary

The Physical Therapist (PT) is responsible for evaluating students, developing individualized treatment plans, and providing direct and consultative physical therapy services in accordance with students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The PT will support students with a variety of physical, developmental, neurological, and orthopedic needs while collaborating with school personnel and families to promote educational success and participation in school activities.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct physical therapy evaluations and assessments to determine student eligibility and service needs.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized therapy plans based on evaluation results and IEP goals.
  • Provide direct physical therapy services to students individually and in group settings.
  • Address areas including gross motor development, mobility, balance, strength, coordination, endurance, posture, and functional movement.
  • Recommend and support the use of adaptive equipment, mobility devices, positioning supports, and environmental modifications.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents, and related service providers to support student success.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, multidisciplinary team meetings, and educational planning discussions.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including evaluations, progress reports, service logs, and Medicaid billing documentation as required.
  • Provide consultation and training to school staff regarding physical therapy strategies, accommodations, and safe student handling techniques.
  • Ensure compliance with district policies, state regulations, IDEA requirements, and professional practice standards.
Qualifications
  • Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) or equivalent degree from an accredited program.
  • Current or eligible for New Mexico Physical Therapist licensure through the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department.
  • Knowledge of pediatric development, educational models, and school-based physical therapy practices.
  • Previous school-based or pediatric experience preferred but not required.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary educational team.
