Qualifications

  • DPT from CAPTE-accredited program.
  • Successfully completed NPTE.
  • Current, valid ND PT license.
  • Minimum of five years in physical therapy, preferably in school-based settings.
  • Experience with students with special needs and IEPs.
  • Ability to collaborate with educators, parents and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Maintain confidentiality under FERPA/IDEA/HIPAA regulations.
  • Able to complete background investigations and related security checks.

Job description

Schedule:
Two (2) days per week for a total of forty (40) weeks per school year, including Extended School Year (ESY) services.

Summary:

The Physical Therapist provides on-site physical therapy services to students with disabilities at Ojibwa Indian School in accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The therapist evaluates students, develops and implements individualized treatment plans, participates in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, and works collaboratively with teachers, parents, and school staff to improve students' functional mobility, independence, and educational participation. Services are delivered in compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations while maintaining the highest standards of professional practice.

Requirements:
  • Doctorate Degree in Physical Therapy from a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).
  • Successful completion of the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE).
  • Current, valid, and unrestricted Physical Therapist license in the State of North Dakota.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience as a Physical Therapist, preferably in a school-based setting.
  • Demonstrated experience working with students with special needs.
  • Experience developing, implementing, and monitoring Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Ability to work collaboratively with educators, parents, healthcare providers, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA, IDEA, HIPAA, and applicable federal regulations.
  • Ability to successfully complete all required background investigations and security requirements prior to beginning work.
Duties:
  • Provide comprehensive on-site physical therapy services to eligible students.
  • Conduct screenings, evaluations, and assessments to determine students' physical therapy needs.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans consistent with each student's IEP goals and educational objectives.
  • Implement therapeutic interventions to improve strength, balance, coordination, endurance, mobility, posture, gross motor skills, and functional independence.
  • Modify therapy activities and interventions to ensure student safety and maximize educational participation.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, administrators, school staff, and outside healthcare providers regarding student progress and therapy recommendations.
  • Attend and actively participate in all Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings.
  • Develop annual IEP goals and objectives related to physical therapy services.
  • Maintain accurate student service logs and submit required documentation on a monthly basis.
  • Prepare quarterly student progress reports and complete student assessments as required.
  • Maintain complete and accurate treatment records while protecting the confidentiality of student information.
  • Maintain all required professional licensure, certifications, and continuing education requirements.
  • Perform all services in compliance with IDEA, applicable federal and state regulations, school policies, and accepted professional standards.
  • Provide all supplies, therapy materials, and testing materials necessary to perform required physical therapy services.
