Job description

Travel Physical Therapist

Location: Mishawaka, Indiana

Pay Rate: $48.45 – $50.45 per hour

Position Overview

Our client, a growing healthcare organization, is seeking a licensed Physical Therapist for an onsite, 90-day contract engagement in Mishawaka, Indiana. The role centers on restoring function, mobility, and independence for a varied patient population through evidence-based therapeutic care.

This position suits a therapist who values direct patient contact and measurable outcomes. Whether you are actively looking for your next role or an employed clinician seeking to broaden your practice setting, this engagement offers autonomy, a collaborative rehabilitation team, and a clearly defined commitment window.

Key Responsibilities

You will conduct thorough initial evaluations, including history taking, objective measurement of strength, range of motion, gait, balance, and functional capacity, and you will establish measurable short- and long-term goals tailored to each patient's baseline and personal priorities.

You will design and deliver individualized treatment plans using therapeutic exercise, manual therapy, gait and transfer training, neuromuscular re-education, and appropriate physical modalities. Plans are adjusted continuously as patients progress or as clinical presentation changes.

Patient and caregiver education is central to outcomes. You will teach home exercise programs, safe body mechanics, fall-prevention strategies, and proper use of assistive devices, ensuring patients understand both the how and the why of their program to support adherence.

You will document evaluations, daily treatment notes, progress reports, and discharge summaries accurately and on time in accordance with payer and regulatory requirements. You will also coordinate with physicians, occupational and speech therapists, nursing staff, and case management to keep care aligned across the team, and may supervise physical therapist assistants and aides.

You will manage your own schedule and caseload within the department's productivity expectations, coordinating patient scheduling, adjusting for cancellations and additions, and ensuring continuity of care across the episode. You will also verify authorization status and documentation requirements for each payer, working with administrative staff so that treatment is not interrupted by avoidable authorization gaps.

Requirements

An active, unrestricted Physical Therapy license valid in the state of Indiana is required at the time of hire, along with a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree or an equivalent qualifying degree from an accredited program, and good standing with the state licensing board.

Prior clinical experience is required, with a minimum of one year of post-graduation practice strongly preferred. Current BLS or CPR certification is required.

You must demonstrate sound clinical reasoning, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage a full caseload efficiently while maintaining documentation quality. Clear communication with patients, families, and interdisciplinary colleagues is essential, as is proficiency with electronic documentation systems.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in outpatient orthopedics, home health, acute care, or skilled nursing is preferred, and candidates comfortable across multiple settings are especially valued. Familiarity with common outcome measures and functional assessment tools is advantageous.

Board certification in a clinical specialty, manual therapy training, or certifications such as LSVT BIG or vestibular rehabilitation are viewed favorably. Prior contract or travel therapy experience and experience supervising PTAs or students are also a plus.

Experience with electronic documentation platforms commonly used in rehabilitation settings shortens orientation. Comfort treating a mixed caseload spanning post-surgical, neurological, geriatric, and general deconditioning presentations is valued, as is a collaborative approach to working alongside occupational and speech therapy colleagues.

Compensation and Benefits

This engagement pays an hourly rate in the range of $48.45 to $50.45, based on experience and credentials, across a 90-day contract with a defined end date.

You will work within a rehabilitation team that supports clinical autonomy and professional development, with exposure to a diverse caseload that strengthens your clinical portfolio. The defined engagement period offers predictability, and extension may be possible depending on performance and organizational need.

We are an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law. Reasonable accommodations are available during the application and interview process on request. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States for the duration of the engagement.
